Justin Timberlake In Consideration For Green Lantern
Holy sweet merciful crap. Someone just shoot me in the face. The good folks over at AICN are reporting that Justin “I can’t act to save my life” Timberlake is in serious consideration to play The Green Lantern and was actually doing some test shooting at a local studio for the part.
Look, I actually like Justin Timberlake. I think he’s got a very charismatic personality and is a truly great entertainer… but I love my mom too… doesn’t mean I think she can act. Justin Timberlake can not act. Period. it’s as simple as that. And I’m sorry folks… but doing some light improve skit stuff on SNL does not constitute “acting”.
Granted, I think he would be better for the role than Jack Black… but then again who wouldn’t? I will officially lose any and all hope for that movie if they cast Timberlake.
This is a movie, whatever happened to hiring ACTORS.

I actually thought he was decent in Alpha Dog & Black Snake Moan, but I totally agree he shouldn’t be in for Hal Gordon. He doesn’t even look like Hal Gordon remotely. If anything more like Kyle Rayner, but even that is a stretch.
JT’s personality and charisma doesn’t match Hal at all.
IDK who would make a good GL, the can be a bunch of names thrown into a hat, but JT is deff not one of em.

The oddity is, I think they are on the right track. But I’m thinking Mark Wahlberg.
Though I was not a fan of Southland Tales, JT wasn’t half bad in that movie. I know this because it took somebody telling it was him to even notice that’s who it was. However, once that was pointed out I couldn’t shake the fact that was him.
But what exactly did he do in that movie? As i remember he just sat around and lip synched a song

Yes, and that’s why we should give him a whole movie just to himself. Goodlord no… This would make me not go see it. Give the role to an actual actor that has spent time trying to perfect his craft versus a bored singer.

I’ll still see it regardless just because I love Green Lantern; he’s second only to Batman for me. Hell they could cast Louis Anderson as Green Lantern and Gary Busey as Sinestro and I’d still go see it.

They can’t be stupid enough to do this….can they? They have perfectly cast for batman and Superman Returns so I doubt they will make such a stupid move. I say go with Chris pine but thats just me.

Harry “Bless his heart” Knowles also gives 98% of every movie he sees a glowing review. I practically pissed myself when I read his review of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. He called it a love letter to the series. Still how could you not love him!

Harry Knowles (-it -all) will call a ten foot high pile of donkey manure with flies swarming about it the most outstanding thing he’s ever seen if such a sight were on celluloid.

Well, if I remember a while back, rapper David Banner wanted to play Gambol in The Dark Knight. But Nolan ultimately chose Michael Jai White instead, so this could be rumor.
They will back off of this. I have faith. If I am wrong I think they (WB) will regret it because I think the average movie goer will scoff at the prospect also.

Timberlake seems like a really cool guy with the ability to make people laugh and take some shots at himself, but an “actor” he is not. If he were cast as like a funny friend of Hal’s that has a few lines and about 7-10 minutes of screen time, that would be great… but, the lead? Please no.
JT doesn’t impress me an an actor. He does alright, admirable even, but isn’t knocking my socks off. Hopefully his name is thrown in the mix for variety and not seriously a considered candidate.
So it’s down to Cooper, Reynolds, and Timberlake…my vote is for Cooper!
I hope he gets it out of the three finalists (Although I think the other two guys may be cheaper to hire?)

Timberlake seems like a decent and nice man, but his music sucks. The man can dance and he has a sense of humor, but he cannot act. He was AWFUL in Alpha Dog, in fact, that whole damn movie sucked. He was barely in Black Snake Moan and didn’t annoy me as much, but his performance wasn’t anything special. Giving him a staring role, especially of his caliber, is ridiculous. I can’t see this as anything, but rumor. I pray it is only a rumor.
The very thought of him as Green Lantern is ludicrous.

I respectfully disagree with your assessment of his “acting”. I thought he was horrible in Alpha Dogs and in Black Snake (and obviously in Love Guru). To me he was like pins in the eyes. Make the pain stop.
I thought he did a good job in Alpha Dog. To each his own. But I do agree he’s not the right one not unless they can Christain Bale his batman voice.
So because Harry Knowles said Timberlake is good… that means he’s good? Knolwes is also the same guy who gave rave reviews to the Star Wars Prequels.

What the HELL are you talking about? Knowles’s movie opinions are no better or worse than yours or mine. You think because he’s got a website that makes his opinions good???
Knowles runs a fantastic website… but I highly disagree with his movie opinions. You think because I run a movie website my movie opinions are any better or worse than anyone else? Obviously not.
Harry is a good guy who runs a great site… but I personally think his opinions on movies are horrible.
Timberlake sucks. Plain and simple. But all film is subjective and so are performances. You like Timberlake? That’s cool, you’re entitled to that opinion if his performances work for you. I find them flat out painful and excruciating to watch.

Alpha Dog has an “unfresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes with 44% of the critics giving it a negative review. All film is subjective… ALL OF IT. Lots of people hated Timberlake in that movie… and many didn’t. It’s subjective. If you don’t know that one simple little fact, then you don’t understand film at all.

I don’t hate Timberlake at all. I’ve said in this very post that I like him a lot and think he’s a great entertainer. HOWEVER… that doesn’t mean he can act… because he can’t.
And no…it’s not “unanimous”… lots and lots of people dislike Timberlake’s acting.
And even if 99% of people liked it (which they don’t) that doesn’t stop the FACT that all film is subjective.
