Me and Orson Welles Trailer Online

There is a new film out there that Roger Ebert says is “possibly the best movie about the theatre I’ve ever seen” That film will be hitting the Toronto International Film Festival next month and today we get to see the trailer for “Me and Orson Welles”

Get the Big Picture says:

The upcoming Richard Linklater film stars Zac Efron as a teenage actor cast in Welles’ theatrical production of Julius Caesar back in the 1930s. British actor Christian McKay portrays Welles.

And yes, that “Me” in Me and Orson Welles is Zac Efron. And frankly he isn’t acting at all like he did in his previous films. His chemistry with McKay looks so good and now I want to see it even more.

I was almost reminded of DiCaprio in Titanic at moments. Soft spoken sincerety, and a genuine smile that isnt all candy coated and posed.

I often wondered if there was more to Efron than Disney showed us, and this might be it.

  1. I had to wait ’til that ad stopped playing before I could watch the trailer. You should make a rule about ads with audio not being on the same page as an embedded trailer. Either that or make them insert a mute button.

  2. Um….. from the trailer he only said a couple of lines but everything else was muted with just music playingand how can you people say he is a great actor from just a few lines? I’ll reserve my opinion on wheather he can act or not after i see the whole film. In the mean time he is still just a pretty face.

    1. I know, right? Especially with yesterday’s announcement that Universal is movie forward with Bryan Singers theatrical reboot of BSG. Not to mention the release of the red band trailer the other day. Yesterday was hell with no new discussions on themovieblog!

  3. Zac Efron was actually really good in Hairspray and even 17 again..I think hes actually a pretty good actor, I have faith that he’ll do well in the future

    1. Really? REALLY? I’m going to take your comment as sarcasm, because ZE couldn’t act his way out of a wet paper bag. Although he might be OK as Jonny Quest, just because the character is so vapid to begin with.

      I
I’d be the biggest supporter of running him out of the business on a rail… if he hadn’t been in that one episode of Firefly.

  4. It’s so weird, I just saw Efron today on a rerun of CSI: Miami. He was a kid who poisoned a guy and then his little brother (I mean, like a six year old) SHOT and killed another guy!

Guess he’s not just a Disney kid after all…

  5. Is it just me….or has Claire Danes not aged in like ten years? She looks great.

I learned Efron had some talent when I saw 17 Again. That kid has talent dripping off him. Hopefully Disney will stop ladling it off him long enough for him to have a real career.

  6. I watched the trailer for Legion, and the idea seems cool, but I couldn’t help but giggle when Micheal started using a gun like he was some sort of action hero. Just seemed kinda laughable. Not sure what to think.

  7. I’ve been waiting to see this one for awhile now since hearing Ebert’s quote. Christian McKay is being touted giving an excellent portrayal of Orson Welles. I too can see glimpses of a real actor in Efron here that you didn’t really see with the Disney stuff. (As the aunt of two tween girls, I confess I did see the Disney movies though and enjoyed them for what they were). I don’t think Me and Orson Welles has found a U.S. distributor yet though. Hopefully that changes soon and we get a release date.
