The infectiously popular genetic evolutionary game Spore will be evolving to the big screen thanks to 20th Century Fox.
Publisher EA has struck a deal with 20th Century Fox to develop a CGI animated film based on game Spore, developed over many years by The Sims creator Will Wright. Ice Age’s Chris Wedge is currently attached to direct.
I find it amusing how many properties without a PLOT are being tagged for transition into the big screen.
On one hand I wonder in puzzlement what they intend to do with it since there already is no story. Then on the other hand I think… You can’t screw it up!
There is something to be said about a property with brand recognition and a built in audience that might want to see a movie out of blind curiousity just because of the name. People complain that there is nothing original in Hollywood (complete over reaction) and they will be the first to point at a movie like this as their “proof”.
But in reality it is these plotless properties that give us the opportunity at a bright new original storyline to vaguely attach the recognized brand to.
