Rebecca Romijn wants a Mystique Origins Film

By Rodney - October 7, 2009 - 10:57 America/Montreal

With the X-Men Origins spinoffs spiraling into a number of solo films for X-characters, its only a matter of time that each member of the cast drops a line in an interview suggesting their character get a feature film.

Rebecca Romijn-Stamos is the next in line.

Get the Big Picture says:

In the weeks after this summer’s Wolverine, Halle Berry wondered why Storm doesn’t get a spin-off. Well, that’s because she doesn’t deserve one. And now – sigh – Rebecca Romijn-Stamos-O’Connell tells Showbiz Spy that there ought to be more Mystique, too.

“If they talk to me in a year when I have worked off more of the baby weight, we’ll see, but I’ve still got a couple of pounds to go,” says the new mother of twins. “It’s a great idea but no one’s talked to me about it yet.”

Don’t hold your breath Rebecca. Unless they explore the Mystique/Sabretooth relationship that lead to Nightcrawler being their son. I just don’t see it.

Some characters I don’t see getting a solo film? Cyclops (he wont stay dead), Rogue, Storm, or Beast. All valued characters in their own right within the X-mythos. But they contribute to a larger story. On their own they just wouldn’t be able to carry a film like they might in a comic.

But Wolverine has enough solo history to make his own film, and while they could have done better with it, he had enough to work with. Other films would work better as ensemble films anyways. Let them have their First Class and New Mutants to showcase those characters.

The one I would love to see them play out is Nightcrawler, but even I know that won’t happen. But it would give an excuse for Mystique and Creed to show up. Maybe he can re-appear in an Excalibur film.

I agree. I don’t think there is enough for her character to have her own film. They could bring her back for X4. Remember the “cure” wasn’t permanant for Magneto so the same could be for Mystique. Anyway I really don’t care what they do with the X-Men franchise anymore, not after sitting through that piece of shit “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”.

  2. Anti-Septic says:

I wouldn’t mind a Mystique Origins film minus her of course. Overall I dont like her as an actress, so having her in her own vehicle wouldnt be good for me. She was just ok in the X-Men films, her parts weren’t big enough to really annoy me so much.

An entire film with her could kill me though!

  3. Monty says:

Personally, I’m waiting for X-Men Origins: Toad.

Mystique was an interesting character once upon a time, until they made her Nightcrawler’s mother, it was all downhill after that.

    • Anti-Septic says:

Yea, that was about as bad as making Sam Jackson into Nick Fury. Marvel does a lot of screwed up junk.

      • bernardg says:

Well, Sam J ain’t that bad as Nick Fury, beside it’s come from the Ultimate version, not the established regular ones.

      • SlashBeast says:

Yeah, cuz you know, David Hasslehoff totally nailed the role.

    • riggs says:

mystique was always nightcrawlers mother, and ultimate nick fury is based off of sam jackson…..go read some comics.

  4. Aaron says:

I hated the Wolverine movie. His history isn’t that interesting… Especially the third time it’s brought to film. They already dove into his past in the first two X-Men movies. The spin-off was NOT necessary. The only spin off of these characters that I am looking forward to is Magneto. That is a history/complex character that could stand to be explored.

And why prequels? Why don’t they just take the characters and spin them off after X-Men 3? Do another X-Men movie without Halle and all the other older actors… Show Rogue getting her strength and ability to fly (so she can quit whining about boys and actually do something.

  5. SlashBeast says:

Okay! Enough! All of these origin movies have to STOP! Nobody deserves their own origin movie until they make X-Men Origins: Senator Kelly.

  6. Jake says:

    I wouldn’t mind.

  7. bigsampson says:

i would rather watch her strip in that one movie…she has such a hot body…but she is not a actress so…..

plus that character sucks….talk about crap powers

    • Rodney says:

More evidence that you never read comics. Thanks

      • bigsampson says:

no i just really didnt get into the xmen universe cause everyone else was allready into them…in my days of comic book collecting was when IMAGE first came out..also i read alot of Dark Horse….sorry Marvel seemed like crap in the early 90’s IMHO…sure cosmic spidey was dope and a couple other things like cable n bishop…but other then them u wasnt into much of the xmen universe cause it was changing with every artist etc working then.

      • bernardg says:

Age of Apocalypse are awesome! Also Generation X… unforunately I hv to agree w/ u with the rest of that era

      • SlashBeast says:

To be fair, a lot of the comics in the 90’s sucked with all the gimmicks and such. But I think X-Men really hit a creative peak then.

      • Rodney says:

I find it deliciously ironic that you claim Marvel was crap and relied completely on gimmick when that is ALL Image comics did in the early 90s.

It was all about branded artists, pinup art and gimmick. It wasnt until most of their titles started tanking that Image changed their ways.

The Jim Lee era of XMen was incredible, as was the Age of Apocalypse, Phalynx Covenant, Legacy Virus, and Onslaught. At the same time Image was putting up pinup collections by McFarlane and Liefeld comics.

      • bernardg says:

You’re right, the gimmicks really kill it… if you look it from current perspective. I grew up on that era,…. and I have to admits, at that time, the gimmick works, silver or gold foil, embossed, holographic, multiple covers, the beginning of digitally colored artworks, Image comics… Liefeld…it’s such of eyes candy on that era.

    • bernardg says:

unfortunately… i mean. My mistake (BAD KEYBOARD!! BAD KEYBOARD!!)

  8. Meli says:

I’d rather see an X-Men that goes forward as long as it’s better than X3. Not that I have much faith considering how sad the Wolverine movie turned out. I don’t know if I’ll ever watch that movie for a second time.
Mystic has a very cool background but they already fucked up her story with the movies just like most of the other characters. So, yeah, no way. PLUS, Mystic doesn’t even look like Mystic, what the F with the scales – I have always hated it, always will.
Not to mention Romjin does a fine job when she’s on Ugly Betty, but she is not a good actress. I prefer she stays out of any movie I’m interested in watching.

    • SlashBeast says:

I don’t see how they fucked up her story. We know nothing about her background in the movies.

      • Rodney says:

Building mystery in a character called Mystique. How inappropriate.

We dont have to have every character spelled out for you, and frankly Mystique has been so many people its said in the comics that even she doesn’t know who she is anymore.

They didn’t work up a deep background for her because it wasnt required.

      • SlashBeast says:

Are you arguing against me? Because I think we’re on the same side.

I was just saying that I can’t see how they “fucked up” her story in the movies when she really hasn’t been given any. I was never arguing contrary to your point.

  9. Lu Galasso says:

I say give it to her!

    Could be fun.

  10. Jason Angel says:

I was just havin this conversation with a friend the other day. Wolverines past, not only has been done to death, but isnt really that interesting. A character i whose origins i wuld love to see is Mystique, or Jean Grey, or the story of the relationship between Charles Xavier and Eric Lenser

  11. Governor says:

I always thought that giving Wolverine his own origin movie was kind of overkill, it was already sufficiently covered in X-Men and X2.

On the other hand, a Magneto origin movie would be great.

  12. leeloo says:

i wanna archlight movie with omahyra mota.

  13. First off, to request your own spin off movie you would have to prove yourself as an A-list actor a number of times. No Plots or sub plots in the first 2 movies or the third for that matter even surrounded her. there is nothing screaming origin story here, you were supporting cast in x-men and thats all you will be to the x-men universe Nuff Said…

  14. dax says:

    enough with the Origins films!

  15. I drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was Bri-an says:

Whoa! Wait. What about Jubilee, doesn’t she deserve her own film? Firework fingers or jazz hands or whatever it is that she does? :-P

  16. (((( Okay, I say to myself, you’re the man. If this were possible, start brainstorming. You aren’t writing the damned thing, but make it work! Make it plausible What would you do, Seeler, what the hell would you do??)))

    X-Men Origins: Mystique.

    Well, this is how…

(((Wait a minute. Hold on. If this is how she hooks up with Magneto, why couldn’t it be mentioned or seen in the Magneto spinoff? Does it really matter how they met?)))

    Okay, forget that. How about…

(((Nightcrawler is the offspring of..well, see above.))

Alright. For real this time. There’s a line from X2 we can build on. Mystique’s early childhood…

(((But could that mean she’s part of First Class? That IS how she and Magneto hooked up, right? Since Rebecca is back in blue she does not need to be recast…)))

Okay. Okay. How about the “re-invention” of Mystique. She is now regarded as human. The cure itself may be temporary (or perhaps something is changing in the past, as in Days Of Futures Past?) So now she has to be a new ‘origin’, refitting herself into a ‘normal’ society. Yeah! There we go! Oh, what’s that? SHIT!

((((First, Mystique still killed people, impersonated a US Senator, and may be still loyal to Magneto and/or The Brotherhood. She would still be in custody. And if she regained her powers and escaped, she would show up in the new X-Men film after part 3…)))

No. Wait. Give me a chance. I got it!! Really!

*The story takes place in the early 20th century, as, like other Mutants, she has a long life span.

*She is revealed to be bi-sexual; as her lover is the mutant Destiny. This was also before she turned bad. She’s a bit of a detective you see, and…anyway…

    * Shadow King and Nazi Geist are the main foes, as they get help from a time-traveling Shadowcat and Rachel Summers…,the daughter of Cyclops and Jean Grey… Logan and Victor Creed….

    …wait a minute. Did I just say…?
    DAMN. Back to the chalkboard!

  17. Ifaz says:

[I am a big fan of X-Men & X2].But,What I say is finish that Deadpool spin off and close down the the whole fucking franchise. And then after 2 years reboot the whole thing and make it kickass. But I guess that’s never gonna happen.[Well, a mystique origins might not be such a bad idea].

    • Ifaz says:

Sorry, cut one of those ‘the’.

    • Rodney says:

So its ok to go ahead with Deadpool, but then its not ok to do any other characters? There is no logic to that at all.

There is no reason an Origins film can’t be any better or worse than a sequel or spinoff film.

      • Ifaz says:

I didn’t mean it that way. A Magneto origins is also a good idea, I only wrote Deadpool because it’s the coolest. I don’t wanna see another crappy Wolverine movie and First Class sounds like characters with cheesy superpower[except maybe Rouge]. I am just upset about the current shape of X Men, the last 2 movies were stupid as hell, Jean Grey, Cyclops, Professor X are dead, Mystique out of power and we didn’t see enough of Toad & Angel.

  18. Hell yes, bring it on. After all, Wolverine was such a massive critical and commercial success wasn’t it? We all loved that didn’t we? If it’s half as good as that we’ll be happy won’t we?

    Hello?

  19. Pedro says:

why not make one about them all…and then sequels..and more sequels… -.-

  20. riggs says:

i dont see how wolverines backstory has been done to death seeing as how the origin movie was the only one to actually cover his friggin origin, everything before that was about him being weapon x.

  21. me says:

    XMEN ORGINS: Storm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Drop Halle Berry

Have the movie take place in Africa…seperate from the Xmen then have her join up with them in the 2nd or 3rd act

  22. Soon every marvel character is going to have their own spinoffs. How about focusing more on making the main Marvel movies such as X-Men, Spiderman, and Fantastic Four better?
