Where is Independence Day 2?
Bad Boys might have taken the Fresh out of the Prince but it was Independence Day that put him in our hearts.
Ok, it was just the most fun senseless action film. It was great and I love it. But I don’t need a sequel. Sadly Ronald Emmerich does.
Screening Blog says:
Emmerich said he and Dean Devlin are ready to develop the project, but Fox is having issues working out the filmmakers’ and Will Smith’s deals. And, of course, you can’t have “ID4″ without Will, right?
Here’s what he had to say:
Will wants to do it in some sort of a package they can live with. So it’s just been in negations now since forever, and naturally FOX says “Why don’t you do it without Will Smith?” I said Will is essential for us, for this movie and actually for the audience too. And, so, it’s in limbo and lately the studios are fighting.
I checked on IMDB and Will Smith has 25 projects on deck, so I imagine his dance card will be pretty full.
This means that Emmerich will have to consider doing this movie without Smith. Which will make the idea completely unbankable, and therefore it will die like my highschool ambitions to date Alisha Townsend.
Besides, what will they call it? ID1: Canada Day?
It was the only country not depicted as being hit in the film – we hear the Aliens thought we were too nice and Toronto was nice in the summers.

Bad Boys 3 or bust.
And idunno… what’s the logical progression for ID5? More aliens this time?
I’m all for an ID4 sequel, I’m just curious at the direction it would go.
Why do people abbreviate ‘Independence Day’ into ‘ID4′?
Because it was in the poster and promotional art for the film.
The best part of Independence Day for me was the interaction between all the actors, especially Jeff Goldblum and Judd Hirsch. Big Willy was the main draw, but it was clear you were there for more than just him.
I really dunno how they would follow up such an amazing movie, can it even be done?
Up til now Emmerich has the interesting distinction of being the only crassly commercial filmmaker with no interest in sequels, this seems a bit out of character.
The Bad Boys films were way better than Independence Day ever was Bad Boys has more re-watchability than Independence day ever did.
I’m out unless they can put Jeff Goldblum in there too….. Kidding but really do we need another? Emerich out of disaster type movie ideas so he is gunna recycle through old idea’s. Ohhh wait, sorry every movie he has made since has been a recycled ID4, sorry…
If it still has some aerial combat sequences, im in.
i thought the whole alien race was killed in the battle? well whatever, could be fun, but what i really want is district 9 sequel, woohoooo! that would rock!!
Emmmerich can keep hoping Will Smith will have time for this movie and Will can keep doing other movies so that this sequel doesn’t bother wasting money to be made. I enjoy the beginning of ID4 but then I get bored until the end. I can’t remember the last time I watched it all the way through. Not to mention Emmerich is an awful director who makes shitty movies, ID4 is the only one I ever enjoyed and that was because of Smith and Goldbloom.
What were those two words at the end of ID4?
Shouldn’t that settle it?
I can see the trailer now. a huge ship from ID4 settles over a city. then an EVEN HUGE-ER ship settles over that one.
ID4…2
NNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
why???????????????
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
All i know that if FOX is involved they will shit all over it like they did some other recent movies so the smartest thing Roland could do is find another film company like universal or even disney to distribute the film since those fox aholes are being stingy about bringing will smith back.
More blind unjustified rage over Fox. The line up for the next bandwagon is over there, hurry up or you will miss out on some classic blind bashing you cant justify.
