Abrams says Dark Tower isn’t Happening
Stephen King’s Dark Tower series has been resting its movie rights on the high dusty shelves of JJ Abrams Bad Robot for a while now and the itchy fingers of the devils idle hands want to see him make that film.
But its not going to happen. Not yet anyways.
[Abrams] said last month he won’t be making Dark Tower, and now Abrams tells MTV the movie won’t be happening at all for a while. “The Dark Tower thing is tricky,” Abrams began. “It’s such an important piece of writing. The truth is that Damon and I are not looking at that right now.”
Personally I would rather see Dark Tower become JJ’s new TV series to fill the gap that Lost will leave.
Its an epic story, and what I feel will be FAR too vast to be contained in a single film. JJ’s gift for character development and revealing mystery and a driving need to see the next episode would make him a perfect fit for bringing the feudal magical western medieval fantasy series to life.
I am not a big Stephen King fan as I tend not to like horror novels, but the Dark Tower series had me at Hello.

amen to that….make it a HBO series like Rome
or each season could be a book
That would/could/should be epic
indeed…probly one of the most epic books i have read…in line with several other series like doone etc.
Yeah, doone was awesome.
I liked DUNE better.
Unless Kevin J Anderson was writing. That was fail.
But the real question is; who would you like to see adapt it? And who your dream cast be?
I actually wouldn’t mind seeing an animated Dark Tower series, done in a style similar to the recent Marvel comics run. I’m sure there would be some anime directors who could handle the (massive) gig.
This is just sad news.
I agree, The Dark Tower would be awesome as a tv series a-la Carnivale. Each book a season. And not putting books as Insomnia as ‘mindtraps’. Make the Crimson King mad as hell as he was @ Insomnia and Black House. And change the ending.
Frank Darabont should write and maybe direct some episodes
