New Alice in Wonderland Poster Online

A new poster for Alice in Wonderland has been promoted on its official Facebook page. If enough people are bribed to hit the “like” button for the poster, there is a promise that two more will be released as well. Ah social media bribery!

Anyways here is the poster:

I sort of find it a bit awkward. The distracting part for me is the Red Queen in her classic “Ort wit ‘er Head!” pose and pointing looks like she should be pointing at the White Queen, which she isn’t. But the perspective is off. She appears like she’s pointing at Anne Hathaway, but she’s in the foreground.

Its just disorienting even though I know the two are not even in the same scene. At least this is better than dwelling on Johnny Depp like he is what the movie is about. It showcases some of the other oddities of Wonderland.

We might even get an Alice in Wonderland poster with … I don’t know… Alice?

  2. Jeremy K. says:

I love the character designs, costuming, and overall look and feel of this project. I cannot wait to see it.

On a slightly unrelated note, I read recently that America McGee is returning to make a sequel to his awesome Alice game! Though it’s not due out till like 2011 or 2012.

  3. Ifaz says:

How many people think that Tim Burton is a serious drug addict?
Anyways, No Alice and Mad Hatter in the poster is not a good thing, they are the leads right?

    The poster looks quite fake-ish.
And looking forward to this flick.

It is an odd poster, but since this will be proably be an odd movie it sort of fits. I’m very much looking forward to seeing this.

What happened to my comment? :|

Rodney, I was waiting for you to comment on the floating cat head in the poster. To me that’s the most distracting about the poster.

    • Amanda says:

I would think the floating cat head is the least odd about the poster since the cat has been represented as a floating head in every Alice movie. I find it hard NOT to think of the cat without thinking of his seperate from body head that bounces around and is the last solid body part followed by his smile in the disney version.

    • Rodney says:

The floating photoshopped head trend in posters is a cliche, but in this case it works because thats what the character is.

The cheshire cat turns invisible when he smiles, which very specifically is described as a phasing process that starts at the tips of his toes and the tip of his tail slowly fading until all that remains is his smile.

  7. Dragonslayer says:

Looks alright. The movie itself looks amazing.

  8. Gunther says:

There’s almost too much wrong with the poster. The lightning doesn’t seem to fit as it changes slightly to drastically on each character. The Queen and her pointing to nowhere gives a massive “stock photo” vibe. And this floating cat head is a truly masterpiece of a Photoshop Disaster.

Still looking forward to the movie, though.

My God, Burton needs to do something new, fast!

    • Shane Hero says:

Why? He does what he does well. Why on earth should he go make a romantic comedy or a political drama, just for the sake of doing something “new”.

      • SlashBeast says:

He’s become one-note and resting on his conventions. What he does is no longer challenging or even unique. His pseudo-Gothic expressionism has become repetitive and safe. His best films, Ed Wood and Big Fish, are major deviations from his usual style.

    • Jeremy K. says:

Personally I think that “pseudo-Gothic expressionism” is a perfect fit for an Alice movie. Would you be OK with this movie if it looked exactly as it does but had been directed by somebody else? Or would you then be knocking on somebody for trying to rip off his style?

There are honestly only two existing ventures I would love to see through Burton’s eyes. Alice is one of them, and that will is on its way. The other would be the Wizard of Oz.

I do agree that he should venture out a bit, as I did love Big Fish, but I would not want him to give up all together on what you call his repetitive and safe expressionism.

If anything, I’d like him to do some original stories in the future, rather than re-imaginings.

      • SlashBeast says:

I’m not saying he should quit the thing that he’s known for. I’m just saying that it’s getting really stale. I hope he ventures out into new creative avenues.

  10. chris...the real one says:

    looks amazing…cant wait

  11. Shane Hero says:

It’s obviously meant to be a sort of ‘montage’ photo, since all of these characters are from different places and scenes.

Despite the fact Alice is the main character, she’s also the least interesting to put on a poster, since she’s just a normal human. What the movie is “about” are all the strange places and characters Alice comes across in Wonderland. THAT is what you put on the posters.

Can’t wait to see this film. Burton and Wonderland will be a perfect mix.
