Terminator Officially for Sale

By Rodney - November 2, 2009 - 09:26 America/Montreal

With Halycon serving as the second wife to the Terminator franchise, the $25 million dollar wedding was not enough to stave off their creditors and now after two short years they are parting ways.

Halycon is auctioning off the franchise, which rumour has it Sony is a top contender.

Worst Previews says:

According to Financial Times, the plan is now to auction off the rights later this month. No word on how much the franchise is expected to bring in, but since the rights to “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” sold for $60 million just a few weeks ago, it is likely that the “Terminator” franchise will be sold for much more.

“We have a property that has made three times the box office [takings of the TMNT films],” said Kevin Shultz, senior managing director Halcyon Holding Group.

What this will mean for Terminator sequels we won’t know until the new buyer lays down the law.

The comparison to the TMNT franchise seems a little unbalanced. TMNT is something that can be reintroduced a dozen times in a dozen ways and still keep its core story. There are many different mediums that the Heroes of the Half Shell could be marketed and sold off to kids, while Terminator has a limited audience. I honestly don’t see the rights going for that much more, though I suspect they might top out higher than the TMNT bid.

Personally for me, the story was over with 2 and I didn’t need to see more. Ironicly I did enjoy the Sarah Conner Chronicles on TV and if anything I would like to see a Sarah Conner story set after the first film, learning all her skills and contacts.

But the future war was just visuals to me and no heart.

I hope James Cameron buys the franchise. The series has really gone down in quality since he left. T1 and T2 are like masterpieces(To me), but T3 and T4 are just mindless action flicks filled with plot holes. And if they do get a fifth film off the ground hopefully they be stupid enough to use McG’s concept of sending HKs back in time, and ruin continuity even more.

how about a 3rd season of the Sarah Conner Chronicles? that was way better than salvation

  3. Jimbo says:

HDpunk.. End of the second season of Sarah Connor was an ultimate cliff hanger. I agree i want more!

  4. DirkAnger says:

I gotta agree that the last season SCC, especially the cliffhanger, was way better than Salvation.

  5. Lawrence says:

I dont think there should be any more Terminator movies after Terminator Salvation. That movie drove the franchise down to the sewers. A Robocop versus Terminator movie might interest fans, but jaded critics will view it as another marketing ploy similar to those horrible “Aliens versus Predator” flicks.

I feel it’s my duty to point out that you said “Heroes of the half shell” when it’s clearly “Heroes in half shell”. Just sayin.

  7. VIc De Zen says:

I personally thought that they should have left Terminator alone after the second movie. I haven’t liked anything Terminator related after that.
