District 9 Billboards Hitting The Streets

— Posted by John Campea

District 9 is a film I’m very curious to see. The concept is interesting (looks a lot like “Alien Nation” but with a completely different flavor) and is the first feature film by (now) director Neill Blomkamp (who was supposed to direct the now defunct “Halo” movie). I wasn’t blown away but liked the trailer.

Looks like some new billboard ads for the movie have been hitting the streets. I think they’re cute… but maybe a little confusing for anyone who doesn’t know about the movie.

These are great - obviously a viral marketing scheme to get a buzz going rather than a straight-up 'coming to theatres soon!' type deal. They tie in with the website wonderfully! If I didn't know anything about this film I would be more enticed by these than normal posters, pretty sure I would have written the website down.

I have been waiting for this movie for well over a year when I first accidentally found about about Multi-National United corporation. This movie needs the hype, as it's a little bit out there. But with the new V (visitors) TV show coming back on, this movie might get a boost from people looking forward to seeing that reboot. Besides, who doesn't love a good mockumentry? Be Well. Definitely coming across as one giant political about racism. I saw the short film and it was interesting. I'm curious to see how he would stretch his own short flick into a full movie.

Very cool. I think that's some great marketing right there.
