You know, I’m as skeptical as as anyone about this new Robert Zemeckis 3D motion capture animated film “A Christmas Carol” which follows in the footsteps of his other efforts such as Polar Express and Beowul. Still, I’ve got to say these images coming out look freaking amazing and if nothing else I find myself looking forward just to seeing how the damn film LOOKS. Jim Carrey in the lead role seems like the perfect model for it too.
Ebeneezer Scrooge (Jim Carrey) begins the holiday with his usual miserly contempt, barking at his faithful clerk (Gary Oldman) and his cheery nephew (Colin Firth). But when the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come take him on an eye-opening journey, revealing truths Old Scrooge is reluctant to face, he must open his heart to undo years of ill will before it’s too late.

here’s hoping they finally figure out how to get the eyes right. I don’t have much problems with the whole uncanny vally thing. It’s just the eyes that need some work, thought they got a lot better in Beowulf then Polar Express where they were terrible. So cross fingers.
Wow the faces actually show emotion now. can’t wait for this.
While I don’t get the point or motion capturing Tom Hanks to make an animated character that looks just like Tom Hanks, I like this example and can see this being used a lot more often if it comes out all right.
This was you can get a great actor that may not fit physically to the roles you are shooting (age weight, race, etc.) and get their level of performance without heavy makeup or CG editing (like the de-ageing of Patrick Stewart)
This image of Jim Carrey as Scrooge reminds me of a dying old person at a retirement home. You visit them each day, but they keep on living, which feels like forever. Those eyes of death piercing through your soul as the face of an old man marvels at your youth.
Wow, that’s… just a bit creepy right there.
