Paul Giamatti Joins The Three Stooges

The Three Stooges movie had a dream cast but it seemed to go away when the director woke up. What was supposed to be Sean Penn, Benicio Del Toro and Jim Carrey really now consists of Benicio.

But Jim Carrey was a rumour, and Sean Penn walked. But that didn’t doom the project. Paul Giamatti is our new Larry.

Boston.com shares:

Peter Farrelly told us that Paul Giamatti has signed on to replace Sean Penn as Larry. (Penn dropped out, citing “personal reasons.”) Giamatti, who was note-perfect as Harvey Pekar in “American Splendor,” was nominated for an Oscar for his role in “Cinderella Man” and won raves as “John Adams.”

I really like Giamatti. I think that he would make a great Larry and dare I say he would be far better than Penn in the role so I am fully for this.

I am still curious to see how they play out a Three Stooges movie, but at least the casting is shaping up.

But who will be Moe?

Aw. I thought he’d make a better Curly. Sean Penn for Larry was truly inspired, but if he walked, too bad. Guess it’s not Oscar bait enough for his tastes.

    Called it. Great choice.

  3. MAV2 says:

From what I heard the movie would be an hour and a half consisting of three 30 minute episodes.

  4. Jeremy says:

I still think it’s ridiculous to even consider a Three Stooges movie. I say they attach the original Stooges shorts to run before feature films and forget trying to remake them.

But, I’m not a Farrely Brother, so I guess my opinion doesn’t even matter. :)

  5. Tomi says:

I sure hope this version is a lot more gritty and realistic than the original shorts!

  6. Wilco says:

I’ve never seen the three stooges before but i’ll watch anything with Giammti in. He makes everything good.

  7. Sahil says:

Jim Carrey was definitely going to be in this movie but I am guessing the negotiations didnt pan out the way they were suppose to.
Here is a clip of Jenny McCarthy talking about this on Ellen.

I still say John C. Riley would be the perfect Moe.

Paul G. is a big favorite. He’s smart enough to not make a caricature of the part. Better him then Penn, I definitely agree.

i just watched an interview with Jenny MaCarthy and she was talking about how Jim Carrey had already started gaining weight for the role. guess when he heard Penn wanted out, he did too.
