Smallville may have a Season Nine

Smallville has become one of my favourite shows on TV. I used to complain about it destroying canon, but honestly it doesn’t matter anymore. Its not part of canon, and it has a lot of fun re-imagining it in a controlled and isolated environment. And in that environment we have had a lot of fun.

But the 8th season is to be the last, so it has run its course. Oh wait. Has it?

Screenrant says:

Today the news on the street is that Tom Welling is close to finalizing a deal to return for a 9th season with some final details being ironed out. One of the details was something to the affect of “the Brinks Truck pull into the actor’s driveway”. Not a bad detail and not surprising to know Welling has some serious leverage.

Obviously the lynchpin in the plan was Welling signing on, but with his big screen prospects looking a little thin (Unless they do another Cheaper by the Dozen movie) I couldn’t imagine him giving up on Smallville just yet. They will make it worth his time.

Speculation is that now that they are hinting towards the classic romance of Lois and Clark, are we going to see the pre-Superman story move into the big city and step into the familiar. But will we see the outfit or utter that famous moniker? But the one rule that has kept Smallville in the realm of Clark and not Superman has been the “No Flights, No Tights” rule and its worked out for them so far.

If they really wanted to carry the show on, instead of adding another season. Cancel it. Get the fans crazy. Then quietly say you are working on a TV movie to tie the plot together and then reveal that it wasn’t a TV movie and launch a new series called Metropolis.

Then they can launch spinoff shows like Justice League lead by Oliver Queen and the gang.

I should work for a Hollywood PR company. Me smart.

  1. im just waiting for the epic battles Superman and Doomsday. I wanna see this scene, i think Welling could deliver this powerfully,

This time Superman stands his ground and as Doomsday swings away, Superman taunts him. He says, “Before you were a mindless thing. Nothing could hurt you” but now that he is aware, “… you’ll begin to understand something new. Fear.”

“You don’t want to die again, do you? The agony of what’s happened to you affects your speed – your strength – and that little bit of doubt – that you cannot win today – grows.”

“You will never hurt me again. You never kill me again.”

And with a mighty two fisted blow, Superman finally lays Doomsday out cold.

  2. I’m sure most of you won’t agree, since you all seem to be diehard Smallville fans, but it’s time to put the story line to bed. The best time to end a show, is to end it while it’s at its peak. You don’t want the show to go downhill and alienate its audience before finally ending it. Season 8 should be the end. Clark learns to fly when he fights doomsday and leaves the end of the show open for Superman in the finale.

  3. Metropolis….you’re a friggin genius. I’d love to see TW actually become superman, tights, flights & all. Although if they really want to please me they could do with some more Lois in the bikini…or Lois undercover at the nudist camp

  4. Well, *if* they get a season 9, it’s time for the blue tights, or at least the threads being put together. At least the cape….

As for spinoffs, (maybe )I’d like a Green Arrow and/or JLA spinoff, or intro a new character, like Atom, Plastic Man or Dead Man and spin them off. But not…I repeat NOT a “Metropolis”. The only reason being *is* Tom Welling. While it is true his feature film work hasn’t been out of the park yet, I would like to see the actor try other films or be in other series unconnected to Superman.

  5. A say do season nine and end it with him finnaly becoming the coustumed Superman…the main crux of the show has been his reluctance to reveal his secret so that ending would be a natural conclusion…I love the show but it is running out of steam.

  6. I’d have to agree that Season 8 is a big step up. Losing Lana and moving the series forward was the best thing they could have ever done. The series orginal creators were holding the series back.

  7. Although I don’t think Metropolis would last very long so they might just keep the Smallville name if its just for another season. But I want Lex back even if he’s not in every single episode, maybe in 10 of 22 or something like that. and Clark should fly by now and stop being a wuss.

  8. Personally, the order of seasons from best to least, IMO, is season 8, 5, 2, 3, 7, 1, 4, 6.

Season 8 is without a doubt the best season so far, so a Season 9 makes me happy.

  9. I agree with Mr. Kubrick, it went downhill after season 4, just plain boring and annoying. I used to like it very much. It got boring the same way the Saw movies are getting boring, too much information, too many stories and characters that come outta nowhere.

  10. It’s a shame it took so long for the writers to figure this out, but there was only one thing that was keeping Smallville away from being a good show. Lana. Once they wrote her off then we weren’t forced to watch her extreme watery-eyed closeups anymore and the storylines had more depth and direction.

I’m not against another season of Smallville because they do seem to have a more streamlined story arc. But they really need to just change the title to Metropolis and quit pretending it’s normal to commute from the cornfields to the big city.

    1. Idk, I might have to disagree with you on that with the whole lana thing. The only thing good with Lana’s part in the series now is to keep everyone on the edge with the whole love triangle between Lana, Clark, and Lois. Will it be Clois or Clana…what will it be? Atleast thats what’s driving me crazy…but in the end we all know Lois does end up w/ Clark. It’s just right now Lana’s presence is pissing me off…Good Job screenwriters :P lol

  11. What the hell, more Smallville couldn’t hurt I guess. It’s been a good show.

I think CK will pull out the flying ability when he faces off against Doomsday.

  12. I thought the “no flights, no tights” rule wasa Gough/Millar thing and since they are gone, who knows.

I don’t know if a spinoff is they way to go because, they’ve pretty much tapped the well as far as bad guys go.

  13. I really would prefer some spin-off series at some point. These last two seasons have been overloaded with me yelling at Clark to fly already and groaning every time he happens to trip over some kryptonite at the worst possible moments. I’ll take a “Metropolis” any time.

  14. I am only as far as the end of season 6. The shop went downhill after season 4 and has sucked for a long time but I used to love it. Soon I will catch up again on Smallville.
