Holy shit YES YES YES YES! As any of you who have been around The Movie Blog for a while know, Oscar season is like Christmas to me. Seriously… besides Christmas it’s my favorite time of the year, and each year I am keenly interested in who they select to host the show.
Last year, Hugh Jackman did a great job… and this year I think they may top it.
Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin wil co-host the show.
Steve Martin has been the best host they’ve had on the show the last 10 years, and I think he and Baldwin will work great together.
So yeah, I’m very happy about this choice. I’m sure not everyone is, and that’s cool.

Both are a great pick… I agree billy Crystal is pure gold as well… Hugh Jackman was good, not cause he was funny, but because he was entertaining.
I agree, Glenn Gary Glen Ross is a spectacular flick.
Anything but Wolverine is acceptable, Actually Steve Martin is an awesome choice, Baldwin is Great, but has a little Douche bag aura around him, he gives me the feeling that he’s a real prick in real life, like if he’s pissed cause he’s fat and not as handsome anymore (IDK)It’ll be nice to see him fly of the handle on-air and call his daughter a “little pig” again… he just has that “its all a cover up” type personality.
Love the SNL stuff though!
Oh, I think he can be forgiven for putting on a pound or two. Although, come to think of it, I’ve never seen him in the same room with Bill Clinton, so they might be the same dude.

Anyone saying they aren’t sure about Baldwin should check out “Glengarry Glen Ross” for everything they’re looking for. The guys wit is razor sharp!

Do you watch 30 Rock? He is a God.
The only funny thing Steve Martin has done lately was a guest spot on 30 Rock.

I cab still quote great one liners from crystal and steve martins previous shows. i remember some great jokes letterman did….hell i even remember a couple of ellen but I cannot remember one off the cuff or staged or written genuinely funny thing he did.or memorable.
it felt like he broke out into song everty two minutes but other then that the love he gets for his job really baffles me.
i thought he was bland, safe and dull.
baldwin and martin will be fucking terrific.

I was about to complain about Alec Baldwin, but after thinking about it, he is as much as a movie actor as he is a TV actor. I also recall liking Steve Martin as host a lot from a few years ago.
The real test is if the Oscars keep that one pair of presenter category for two to three awards like last time.

They should have gotten Steve Martin and Billy Crystal to co-host. That would be the best Oscars ever!!!! I still think Crystal is the greatest host the oscars have ever seen. But Baldwin and Martin should be good, I just really wanted Crystal in there.
Martin is excellent as always. He’s an actor/comedian that I’m always interested in seeing. In fact, aren’t the two of them co-starring in a film now? Maybe they will have great chemistry and that’s why both are hosting together. I’m into this idea. Baldwin is also fantastic.

I think its a good idea because I love Steve Martin (Alec.. eh.. not as much.. i liked him more during the Hunt for Red October days) but everyone realizes this is a kind of promo right? They are in a movie together with Meryl Streep called It’s Complicated. Granted, it comes out on Christmas this year, before the Oscars… I just find the choice interesting considering. But I LOVE Steve.. so still excited :)
Agree with Ifaz… think Fey would have been better than Baldwin, but I’ve read that it wouldn’t have worked out with her schedule.
Still think that seeing Sarah Silverman do this would be awesome… I know they’d never get her to do it for tons of reasons, but I’d totally love to hear Miss Silverman’s take on the whole Oscar process, ripping it and tons of those in the audience down to shreds

You have not seen 30 Rock if your not sure about Baldwin. I think if anything He has gotten funnier and Steve has slipped a little. Still love Steve though. I think they will make a great team. Also, congrats John on the new gig!
