Terminator: Salvation – What Other Films Have Let You Down?

The sentiment seems to be sweeping around the web that Terminator: Salvation is a disappointment. I can’t definitely say that myself since I haven’t seen the movie yet (going tonight at last) but most of my trusted online friends (and Rodney too) have generally all reported back that the film doesn’t live up the the hopes of movie fans. Shame.

I had my doubts about this film right from the beginning when it was announced that McG was going to be directing it. I just do not trust the guy. He’s not a “bad” director, but I still haven’t forgiven him for Charlies Angels 2 and his involvement in Terminator made me very nervous. But still… the trailers looked pretty good so my expectations went up a bit. Guess I should have left them low.

But Terminator isn’t the first film that had our hopes high only to let them down.

1) Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace
Dear lord… just… dear lord

2) Spider-Man 3
I don’t know that Spider-Man 2 could have been any better. I don’t know how Spider-Man 3 could have been any worse. Looked so good… tasted so bad.

3) Pirates of the Caribbean 3
Good heavens that movie gave me the runs it was so bad. It’s my own fault since I should have expected it considering part 2 wasn’t nearly as good as part 1. I should have seen the pattern.

4) Mad Max: Beyond The Thunderdome
The series was so damn good… and the first part of this flick was also so damn good… and then just got so damn bad.

5) The Village
The movie that gave notice M. Night Shammhammers streak was coming to an end. So hyped for this movie… looked to be the next hit in the great shammhammer’s resume… but instead it introduced to to sucky Shammhammer.

Those are obviously just a few and just off the top of my head. What are some movies that you were dying to see only to walk out of the theater wishing you never went?

  1. John,

You must be smarter than me as I actually saw The Village, Lady In The Water and The Happening….

Yikes….shame on Mr. Night and shame on me for trusting we would have a new M. Night movie with the same caliber as the Sixth Sense….

  2. Let’s see, dissapointments…

Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, very true.
    Miami Vice
    X-men 3
    SpiderMan 3
    Elektra
    Beowulf
x-Files: I want to believe(I couldn’t honestly tell if this was an X-Files movie or a really bad E.R. episode)

  3. INDIANA JONES 4!!!!!!!
first off my first memory as a kid was watching the 3rd one with my dad. i grew up thinking harrison ford was the awsome bad ass treasure hunting man. 1 was and will always be my favorite. hell i even loved 2. so i hear 4 is coming. Great! they are keeping the years the same harrison has aged. great! ravenwood is coming back!!! GREAT!!! lebOOf was going to be in it, i liked transforemrs so im googd to go with that one. Russians were going to be the bad guys. GREAT! i think they would fill in nicely for the nazi’s. so may 19th comes around, me and my dad go to the theater and…..FUCKING ALIENS. ruined the movie. the first 7 minutes i was in heaven. it was just what i imagined it would be. harrison was still indy. and lebOOf didnt even throw me off that much. but the ploit was stupid, i swore if aliens were in the movie i would kill someone,i didnt but man, and it just god!!! i just….5 years of waiting for nothing! i dont except it as cannon and never will

  4. I know SPider-Man 3 sucked but I am in the group that thinks Spider-MAn 1 and 2 sucked too! They are all equally bad movies the only difference is that they noticed it by part 3.

  5. The Watchmen
    Miami Vice
    Shrek 3
    Pirates 2 and 3
    Lady in the Water
    The Happening
Tim Burtons Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
The X-Files: I Want to Believe
    Cloverfield

I know that there is more but thats all i can name at the top of my head right now

    1. Marla , here’s another movie you can add to that list…Hostel..When you have the words ( the scariest movie in the past decade ) on the poster, the movie should follow through. Well, this one didn’t…Not by a longggggggg shot.

  6. Hellboy II The golden army. I didn’t see Hellboy I in the theatre but caught it on video and rather enjoyed it. I thought second one would be pretty good, man was I wrong, I took my girlfriend to this one and I fell asleep and hour into it. I had to watch like 5 chick flicks with her to live this choice down.

  7. For me:

    1) The Matrix Reloaded – One of the most influential films of recent memory slowly canabalized itself with a sequel that was high on(fake-looking) action but little substance.

    2) Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest – Another lovable film turned into a freakish uber-fantasy with pointlessly convoluted plot and an equally pointless ending.

NOTE – If you want to make a good sequel, DO NOT end it on a cliffhanger!

    3) Watchmen – I liked it, but it was nowhere near the great film, even masterpiece which it could have been with a more mature sense of direction.

    4) Spider Man 3 – Too many villains, excess of soap opera, overly-corny and the infamous dancing emo-Peter killed what could have easily been a fantastic film.

    5) Shrek 3 – Loved the first two, but this time around it had become tired and was reeking of an outlived expiration date.

    6) X-Men 3 – The first two were uneven but good but this one was a trainwreck orchestrated by Brett Ratner which demolished everything the franchise had cultivated.

  8. This list is just perfect and I might have to put Matrix 2 and 3 on there. I do remember being disapointed when I saw all five of those fils John and I was pissed as hell with all. And Pirates 3 was the most of them all for me or maybe Star Wars.

  9. i thought beowulf was downright horrible and boring although i like ray winstone. he was awesome in the departed. but that’s mine. and indian jones 4.

  10. The American Godzilla movie. They spent a hundred million dollars and didn’t know what kind of movie they were making? A comedy? Horror? Action adventure? Romance? Was Godzilla a monster? Or the hero? When Godzilla got killed instead of people cheering the theater got very, very quiet. Depressing, just depressing.

  11. I would say:
    1. Underworld (1st) could have been so awesome, I was so excited for weeks and ended up leaving with a meh, its okay
    2. Hitchhiker Guide…Love the books… what happened.
    3. Totally agree on pirates 2 and 3, they were just okay but a let down after the rocking first.
    4. The last two James Bonds, I know everyone else loved them but they had lost their sense of fun for me.
    5. Spiderman 3… God Raimi, just rip out my beating heart and sacrifice it to the necronomicon.

  12. Its tough to think of movies that dissappointed me seeing as how I already feel the movie wont live up to my expectations. But with that said here are the few that sliped by…..

    SAW 2,4,5
    Spider-man 1, 3
    x-men 3
    Hitchhikers guide
    Mummy Returns
    Van Hellsing
    Transformers
    Kill Bill Vol.2

  13. Just want to say that I just came back from T4 and I loved it. 10/10 right now but I’m still in the post-screening rush. Definitely not let-down.

T3 is my number one let-down though. What a terrible terrible movie.

    1. I can see why Jurassic Park 3 would be considered a letdown but I thought it was a bit of a guilty pleasure.

The Lost World was the letdown for me. It totally lost a sense of excitement and the San Diego rampage was just there for comic relief.

  14. 1) Push
Wasn’t terrible but simply not nearly what I’d hoped for
    2) Daredevil
    TERRIBLE VILLANS
    3) The Village
I dont even think I need to explain this one
    4)Watchmen
I think I waited with unparalled anticipation for this film for about a year
    5)Brother’s Grimm
you may call me a fool for having ANY hope for this film but I happen to LOVE fantasy-type movies and I truly thought this would be a great film. It was possibly one of the worst I’ve ever seen

    1. First of all I do have to admit that I have a somewhat biased opinion. You see my brother happened to see the film before I did and proceeded to give away the entire ending.
Thus the movie was completely void of any excitment for me as I nearly laughed my way through the film (spoiler)knowing that none of the “monsters” were real.

But even apart from this fact, I still think the film was extremely weak.
First of all I hated the way the movie was shot. Some of the camera shots were just terrible. Some times the shots were to close, some times to far away, and sometimes(most of the time) the film would stay with one camera angle for far to long.Secondly the acting was far below my standard[note:I do think phoenix did an acceptable job] almost everyone was HORRABLY unconvincing.
Probably my biggest problem with the movie is that it had COMPLETELY no emotion whatsoever. NONE of the characters or events are real enough to care about.
Take for instance the scene where the main character gets stabbed. Zero emotion. He gets stabbed. The audience yawns. I simply couldn’t buy that this frail-childlike character can suddenly become jealous enough to try to kill his own freind.
Lastly I thought that the ending was unbelievably cheesy. Why is it that the only madman in the village is the only one smart enough to find the costume? Why in the first place is he locked in one of the only rooms in the village with a costume in it. Why was he provided with such an easy means of escape? Why on earth would he then put on the costume and try to kill his sister? Why do the directors expect us to believe that a blind girl could without any assistance trek her way through a forrest in which she had never been(shes never been in any forrest for that matter), kill any convenient monsters that happened to get in her way, and bring medicine back through the woods to save her only love.
It sounds nearly poetic but came across as cheesy. The Big “surprise” at the end of the film left me rolling my eyes.
This combined with the fact that I really had high hopes for the movie left me feeling quite disappointed.

  15. I actually loved Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, but only in story structure and humor. Compared to The Road Warrior/Mad Max 2, yes, I could see where it would be slightly disappointing.

I wasn’t disappointed in X Men The Last Stand, save for one line regarding a stupid nod to a fan-dub of an X-Men cartoon.

Here’s my list, and it will shock you. Sit down, and be electrocuted…

    1 – Kill Bill v1

I liked Res Dogs. Loved Pulp Fiction. LOVED Jackie Brown. So here’s my new cinema hero, Quentin Tarintino, here’s Uma, here’s the Crazy 88…

I wound up hating the film. Now, as a poor counter argument, I was told that “I only seen half of the film; I cannot judge it because I haven’t seen Kill Bill vol.2 (at the time) yet”. Well, either I liked “v1” as a film by itself because that’s what it was released as at the time, or I didn’t. I didn’t. Oddly, I liked “v2” a little better. Go figure.

2 Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me

I loved the series; I didn’t mind the prequel movie, but given the notion that the death of Laura Palmer had already been solved, none of the cliffhangers from the show were resolved, and some popular characters/actors hardly showed up at all and/or in smaller roles…it’s like, it’s a film I thought was interesting and haunting…and at the same time, all a moot point.

Fantastic Four :Rise Of The Silver Surfer

    Better known as the teaser for the Silver Surfer Spinoff;
    Better known as the second successful to underuse Doctor Doom;
    Better known as the film which Jessica Alba demonstrates once again that nails on a chalkboard sound way better;
Better known as if we cannot win the day over the threatening ferris wheel, we must win it over a storm cloud.

    Let’s see…I miss anyth..nope, I think I got it all. Moving on…

    4 Rocky IV

Yeah, we all dug the cult camp line “I must break you” spoken by Ivan Drago; but 50% of this film was montages of past films, retreads of past films, and only loved for its stupidness.

    5 10 To Midnight

    WHAT!
Well, see, folks, sad sordid story goes like this: back in the early 80’s, when VHS was another name for gold and the HBO box another name for God…some of my generation would stay up late nights past bedtime and catch some of the R rated films. Not the sci-fi or horror stuff, but the action stuff and the occasional (and I’m not saying me personally) T&A festi’val.
Anyway, a lot of my peers at the time went NUTS over this Charles Bronson flick ’10 To Midnight’.

After seeing a bunch of topless nurses getting stalked, screamed and slaughtered, after getting bored with bad acting, finally I get to the scene all my friends at the time loved.

“Well, I’ll plead insanity, get sent away, be nice, be out in a few years” sayeth the sicko, who holds a bloody knife.

“All those girls…” sayeth Bronson who holdeth the .45

BLAM! BULLET IN THE BRAIN! Sicko drops to the pavement.
    End of movie.

    Yep. The scene everyone loved.
A week later, I got new friends.
We all saw The Thing on the box.
    Yes, better friends.

  16. I have to say pirates 2 ,my girlfriend was so excited to see that F-head Bloom, then the movie sucked so bad that she was so pissed off that she wouldn’t give me any pussy,FUCK YOU ORLANDO !!!!!

  17. 1.Resident Evil 3- The 1st two were shit, but the trailer looked good so I went. It was just another shit topping on a shit cake.

2.Balls of Fury- I think I laughed just twice.

3.Pokemon: The First movie- When I was a kid I was psyched for this. After I saw it I was done with Pokemon forever. Which is a good thing I guess.

4.Yu-Gi-Oh: The Movie- This killed the series for me. I guess this is another good thing.

5.Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer-bad bad bad. I hope they reboot the series.

6.Mallrats- I love Kevin Smith, but this movie was terrible. I did not laugh at all.

7.Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back- This is probably the biggest injoke movie of all time. Oh and it wasn’t funny. I hope Smith puts these characters into retirement forever.

    8.Batman & Robin- bat nipples!

9.Superman Returns: It was visually stunning, but boring as hell. First time I ever fell asleep in the theatre.

10.Beowulf- I had very high hopes and Robert Zemeckis directed it. I started to like the motion capture aspect until this film came out.

    11. Wedding Crashers- It just wasn’t funny as I thought it would be.

  18. lol. spidey 3 really was god awful.
i was shocked at how badly it was written ffs.
and i stayed away from it in the theater cuz of word of mouth and just rented it.
and it was still way wtf worse than i xpected. lol.
    spidey/peter parker/raimi is dead 2 me.

    1. i wasnt saying raimi was done or washed up,
just that raimi’s take on spiderman/peter parker/is done. – for me.
i dont see anything left for him to do with it and i have no interest in seeing more of the same from him.

  19. Star trek: first contact. I just recently watched all the Star trek movies for the first time, and I was excited to watch first contact, because everyone said it was so good, but I didnt like it very much at all.

  20. 1. “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”
    2. “Live Free or Die Hard”
(Indy 4 and Die Hard 4 were good action films, but as sequels they let me down. Lacked a certain feel of the originals)
    3. “The Village”
    4. “XO: Wolverine”
    5. “The DaVinci Code”

  21. X-3, ruined what should have been a solid trilogy of movies.

Attack of the Clones, the prequels were all on the bad side but this was the one that let me down the most. No one really knew what to expect with the first one, but everyone was hoping that the second would redeem the franchise and deliver on a lot of promises.

And not a theatrical movie, but the made for tv Doctor Who movie from 96 really let me down. I loved the classic series but felt like the attempted reboot crapped all over 30 years of history. I do like the new series but still see the 90s movie as the weakest of the lot.

  22. 1) X-Men 3 (My god, so much wasted potential…)
    2) Terminator 3 (Terminator 2 is my favorite movie of all time. But this? Terrible)
    3) Shrek 3 (The first two were great. The third one was painfully unfunny.)
    4) Spider-Man 3 (Same as said above)
    5) Indiana Jones 4 (This one actually wasn’t that bad; it was my fault for hying it up the ass)
    6) Transformers (It had 100% on rotten tomatoes at the time… damn you, rotten tomatoes.)

    1. Yes, T-3 was a nightmare. It is kind of fun to watch now, just for a few parts here and there, but it really should have not been made. The first 2 were great, maybe 2 of my all time favorite movies of all time, but the 3rd was pointless.

    2. @Joshua Smith

I agree with all but Transformers. I didn’t know what to expect from Transformers and ended up liking it a lot. Sure, I have my gripes, but overall I wasn’t let down.

  23. 1. No Country for Old Men- ok hear me out, i saw this after the oscars and after seeing Assassination of Jesse James and There Will Be Blood and was very disappointed, good movie but jesse james and there will be blood were much, much better.

    2. Crank- yawn, over edited garbage.

    3. Resident Evil 2- i was one of the few that enjoyed the 1st flick and thought the ending was great. but this movie was horrid

    4. Transformers- bad acting, jazz saying “sup bitches”, bumblebee peeing, way too corney. there more i watch it the more i just turn my brain off and enjoy it.

    5. Spiderman 3- so the black suit makes pete wanna dance…ok. and i hated the movie mary jane.

  24. I realize I’m the only one, but i really liked the later Shyamalonandonandon movies. The Village, Lady in the Water, The Happening….i liked all three of them. Though, LITW was my favorite of the three.

  25. Wall-e….the message was somehow tainted, sad and ruined the first 20 minutes.

Then I guess anyting with Stiller, Rogen and Cage….all incredible dissapointments and shows these 3 cannot respect the craft.

  26. 1. X Men 3- i hate X Men 3 as much as john hates spiderman 3.
THE REST IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER
    Transporter 3
    Spiderman 3
Wolverine- was ok but fell flat
    Phantom Menace
    Attack of Clones
    Mummy 3
    Superman Returns
    Pirates 3

    1. The Philosopher’s Stone, The Chamber of Secrets and the Goblet of Fire were the best ones in the series. The Prisoner of Azkaban and the Order of the Phoenix were definetely the worst ones.

  27. Pirates 2. I was so excited to see it, bought tickets for the midnight show for me, my little sister, my sister’s best friend, and my best friend.

Movie fucking SUCKED. I was so horribly disappointed.

And as far as Episode I goes, it’s been ten years and I’ve come to terms with that one. Honestly, we the fans are half to blame for that thing being so disappointing. We were all blinded by the John Williams score and the poster with the kid having Vader’s shadow and shit. We failed to recognize the fact that nothing, NOTHING, no matter how good it was, could ever be as good to us as the original trilogy. We’d all find something to nitpick about, something we didn’t like, something that wasn’t the way we wanted it to be. You can’t come back to a franchise after that much time and expect it to be any good. You can’t expect it to be good when Lucas basically controlled the whole thing without anyone to step in and say, “George, this is shit”. Yes, the movie was shitty, but my expectations made it even shittier. I’ve accepted my share of the blame and moved on.

  28. Dick Tracy! What a disappoint that was in the theater.

No Country For Old Men. I saw that without any expectations, but close to the end I was loving the movie. Then the end, oh the end. I wanted the movie to keep on going, but it’s like they realized the movie was getting kinda long and quickly tied up all lose strings in the final two minutes and called it an end. Why couldn’t they have gone on another hour and flushed out the ending?!?!?

I’m sure I have some more, but work is almost over so need to concentrate on finishing that up for the day.

    1. Did you read my comment? I pretty much praised the shit out of it, LOL! I just said the end was disappointing as they tied things up way to quick and it should have gone on for another hour.

    2. i think that w/ no country, at 90mins that movie was flawless, but then the coens felt like pumping in a half hour of bullshit to make it 2 hrs.long

    3. It’s because No Country for Old Men had it’s epic final confrontation in the middle of the film. So it was pretty much over at that point but it continued going.

  29. Juno. That is another HUGE dissapointment. I could not wait for that film to get it’s release, since I’m a huge fan of Ellen Page, but then I saw the film, and the first 15 minutes are sooo poorly done in EVERY aspect of film, that I almost walked out. Sure, the ending worked, partially due to well done character development and amazing performances, but it is so poorly written and uninspiring in a directorial sense, that it has to be a dissapointment. Also, Slumdog, Choke, and Cars. Definitley Cars. It’s a Dreamworks film made by Pixar.

    1. Actually, it’s a Pixar movie made by Pixar. For those who don’t think it is up to Pixar caliber, talk to Pixar and I bet they will disagree with ya.

Choke was pretty funny, definitely not up to the caliber of awesomeness that is Fight Club, but it was still pretty damn funny. The whole getting naked in the airplane bathroom bit cracked me up.

I liked Juno, but I agree it did not meet the expectations I had based off the hype it was getting.

    2. See, I have to disagree, for one major reason, the cast.

When looking at the difference between Pixar and Dreamworks, you can look at two styles of film. You have the Dreamworks films that when looking at the right cast for a film, instead of looking at who fits the character, they simply go for stunt casting. They try to get big names in a role to sell tickets. However, with the exception of Cars and the two Toy Story films (which are brilliant films), Pixar attempts to cast who fits good in the respective role. Take their best film in my eyes, The Incredibles for example. Dreamworks would have cast someone like say, Bruce Willis in the lead as Mr. Incredible, yet Pixar casts Craig T. Nelson. Sure, they cast some stars, like Samuel L. Jackson in that very film, but he still fit the role. Cars cast the wrong people in the wrong role, a normal Dreamworks move.

Also, I just don’t think Lasseter is the best film maker in that crew. Imagine throwing Brad Bird on that project, or even moving the guy who did Lilo and Stitch out of Disney and throw him into 3D animation on Cars, as they were going to do with the first version of Bolt, American Dog.

      Just saying.

    3. Haha, yes, I know it IS a Pixar movie made by Pixar. And of course Pixar would think it’s up to it’s standards when the films director is the head of Pixar. All I’m saying is that it’s by far their worst film, and reminds me more of a Dreamworks film, than a Pixar movie.

    4. Hey Josh Brunsting,

The biggest proof that Cars is one of their best films and not worse is : They are making a sequel Cars 2.
This means Cars was not their worst film…Its my favourite along with Monsters Inc & Ratatouille.

To bring out emotions out of the Cars was amazing. Only PIXAR could’ve done that.
      Hats Off!

CARS was simply superb…The reason you gave of casting big stars is CRAZY. I can’t believe people hate Cars beacause of the casting.

When Cars 2 will come out…all you critics will suck up your words!

    5. I couldn’t stand Juno either. The indie faux-folk music annoyed the crap out of me, and every character was so intent on being quirky and quotable that I couldnt take them seriously. Plus, I liked the message of the film, “Teen pregnancy is no biggie”

    6. Hey, Kal07

Just because there is a sequel coming out for a film, doesn’t make the original good. I.E. Fantastic Four 2.

I HOPE Cars 2 is great, and I think it could be, but I’m just not a fan of Cars. I’ll have to revisit it I guess. Oh, and the fact that the cast big stars isn’t the thing, it’s that they cast them instead of getting people that fit the respective roles. If you look at casts of their previous and subsequent films, it stands out as the most blatant use of stunt casting. I’m not saying that’s the only reason, but it’s one of them.

    7. Fair enough Josh.

Well i also hope you’ll love Cars 2.
      But don’t forget we’re talking about PIXAR here…Fantastic Four 2 wasn’t a PIXAR production!

If PIXAR has the confidence in Cars, you can’t argue with that. They know their films well.

Its your opinion but I strongly contradict your statement…You should watch it again, maybe you missed something & watch it with a positive frame of mind.

    8. Of all the Pixar movies, Cars and A Bug’s Life are my least favorites. They’re more typical compared to the other Pixar films. Plus when I was watching it, I felt like the “moral” of the story was more heavy handed, which is what I never liked in kids films.

    9. Kal07,
I will definitley give it another shot, and I’ll keep your thoughts in mind.

But on Pixar having confidence, of course they do, because it’s easily their most marketed. There is not a single Pixar film that is more beloved by the target demographic, little kids, than Cars, at least in my opinion. That and maybe Finding Nemo, at least where I live. Walking into stores here in Michigan, you can see a handful of kids walking around in Cars tennis shoes, t-shirts, have Cars toys, and other stuff. So yeah, they have confidence, and I have more than enough confidence in Pixar to make a good film. I just think they missed the mark.

I will definitley give it another shot though.

    10. It’s pointless defending Cars, it’s easily Pixar’s worst film.

Cars is basically a carbon copy of the Michael J. Fox comedy Doc Hollywood, except with talking automobiles, one of which is voiced by Larry the Cable Guy, something John Lasseter has yet to apologize for. He also hasn’t explained why in the hell a movie about a race car getting to know small town life is fucking two and a half hours long, or why he felt it necessary to spend most of those two and a half hours jerking off the baby boomers in the audience with tired Route 66 nostalgia. What’s worse, the merchandise line for this film is so tremendously popular that not only have they announced Cars 2, a sequel nobody but Mattel wants, they’re also building an entire theme park section at Disney’s California Adventure called Carsland. It’s like a giant monument to the most frustratingly mediocre film in a respected studio’s oeuvre; imagine if Universal Studios decided to add an attraction based on Steven Spielberg’s The Terminal to their theme park.

  30. Pirates 3? Really John? I respect your opinion, but really? Ok.

    1. Spider-Man 3
Love stories ruin super hero movies, if you don’t believe me watch this piece of crap.

    2. Day The earth Stood Still (Remake)
Ehh…why did I have hope again?

    3. Death Proof
Horrible, and boring. Tarantino luckily has Inglorious Basterds which, based off the script, was great.

    4. The Dark Knight
HEY HEY HEY, before you blast me for this one, let me state my case. I LOVED LOVED LOVED The Dark Knight, but my expectations were so high that by default it let me down, but I loved it, so not sure how fair it was to list this one.

    5. Crank: High voltage
Sorry John, this was bad bad film making IMO.

    6. Matrix 3
Sorry, Reloaded is the best Matrix film, nuff said.

People will disagree with me for this one, but it’s my opinion even if I’m alone, so hear me out.

    7. Slumdog Millionaire
Again, wait before you judge this. Slumdog is a really good movie, it deserved all it got, but it’s not the caliber everyone makes it out to be

    8. Pearl Harbor
Micheal Bay, remind me again why you made this?

    9. Flight Plan
Rushed ending as heck, rest was good, just alright

    10. 21
    21 was boring as heck

Fingers crossed that Terminator doesn’t end up here

    1. Aaron, love stories can also be done right in a super hero movie and not ruin it. Look at Superman II. It just depends on the movie itself. For me the relationship between Peter and Mary Jane was never developed really well in the Spider-Man movies and then in Spidey 3 we are thrust in the midst of a relationship that nobody really cares about.

    2. I was going to say something on the same lines. The problem I, and all my film savvy friends who disliked the movie had, was that it had too much in too little. It had countless plot lines which were all either dropped, irrelevant, uninteresting, or blotted out by all the others. It had to many bad guys, venom, hob-goblin, sandman, and darth-spidey. One is fine, two you can get away with but FOUR. Also the other problem I at least had was they tried to make it too funny. Don’t get me wrong, I am a funny man, humor is good, the way they did it in star trek was good. But too much spoils the movie, the best example of this is Transformers (which was another disappointment).

Having a love story does not make a superhero movie bad. If there was no love story in batman you could have the Rachel vs. Harvey scene. The problem is that with all the spider man movies they just did the love story wrong.

    3. Love stories almost always are the weak points of superhero movies. The only exceptions I can think of would be the first two Superman movies.

  31. In a way I was let down by Dark Knight. Don’t get me wrong I totally loved Ledger as The Joker but beyond his performance I just didn’t feel it lived up to the the insane amount of hype that it had surrounding it I mean come on it was at #1 on IMDB.com’s top 250 for how many weeks I kept checking like every morning and night to see if it changed.

  32. Inspector Gadget.

Believe it or not, while everyone else was masterbating over Darth Maul, my most anticipated film of 1999 was Inspector Gadget. It was my absolute favourite cartoon as a kid and I could not believe how badly they screwed it up as a film.

    1. Yeah…great slapstick, but like that was going to save the storyline.

But for me, it was Alien 3. No other movie has disappointed me so greatly. In fact, it’s just about ruined the franchise for me as a whole. Alien Resurrection was mediocre as well, but it didn’t kill off all your favorite characters and completely invalidate all past films in the series.

  33. Signs that my taste differs from themovieblogs:

    1. Loved Pirates of the Caribbean 2 & 3. Not let down at all.

    2. Liked Thunderdome! It was the craziest of the bunch.

    3. Hated Spider-Man 1 & 2 almost as much as 3, but not quite.

    4. Loved Lady In the Water, which may have just been a hiccup of goodness between The Village and The Happening. It was like some crazy modern day fairy tale, quite enjoyable.

    5. I liked Charlie’s Angels 2 better than the first one! LOL! Honest to goodness. I liked the villain ex-boyfriend character and the overall feel of the movie post the opening scene was pretty trippy. The motorcycle race scene was plenty weird for my liking. I might just be a glutton for punishment and all things whack.

That said, there are some similarities. I like Star Trek as well. I just hope that amongst all the dissimilar interests it means that I will love Terminator Salvation. Don’t worry movieblog, I still love you in the end. Paula Abdul said it best, opposites attract.

  34. Recently I would have to say Blindness. Coming from Fernando Merielles, a director who I love, to make a mediocre film about a topic that I think would really work for film, makes it a dissapointment. It’s not a bad film at all, and IS very intellectually intriguing, but as a whole that film just left me wanting more within the constraints of the film.

Now onto Deathproof. What really did you all expect? I don’t know what your criticsms are of that film, but most of the problems that people say are that it’s talkie, which is also the news coming out of cannes, and to me, that’s not a legit argument. The guy was praised for his talkie and heavily written Resivior Dogs and Pulp Fiction (my fave film ever), and now is getting crucified for the same thing. Even in the Kill Bill series. Kill Bill Vol. 1 is the straight action film, while the sequel, which is a far better film, is almost all dialouge and backstory. Sure, the fact that what the girls were talking about in Deathproof could be less interesting, but the fact that it’s over written isn’t a good argument when discussing a Tarantino film.

That said, you didn’t say what your critiques of the film were haole, so this is just a little rant I wanted to go on. :D

    1. Death Proof was awesome. I enjoyed it more than Planet Terror. Some great dialog in that movie only Tarantino could come up with, and some sick and twisted dark humor to go along with it.

    2. Awesome! Finally, I am not totally alone in my open love for that film. It’s completely compelling, funny, and features one of the greatest car crash scenes, and car chases in film history. I just don’t get how people love all of his previous films, which I think are some of the best modern films made and have influenced a whole generation of film makers, yet dislike this one. Sure, it may be his worst, but it’s still an awesome film.

    3. My two favorite QT films are Jackie Brown and Death Proof. You’re not alone, believe it or not, there are a lot of Death Proof fans out there that enjoy the movie not just because it’s Tarantino. I think its a great, well made, and entertaining film.

    1. I liked the village. It has been a while since I last saw it but I still liked it. And it didn’t compare anywhere near to the likes of Lady in the Water and Happening.

For me it would be Shalone Soccer. I know a lot of people like that movie, and I still think the premies is cool but that movie was terrible.

    1. A couple months ago I totally would have agreed with you on this one. Although I must say Death Proof really has grown on me a lot and it’s one of my all time favorite QT films. But in your case I’m sure Inglorious Basterds will more then make up for it.

    2. Don’t get me wrong I enjoy Death Proof, but I’m just saying it could have been better. Even Tarantino has since said it more of a side project for him.
