There’s a new game here at The Movie Blog. I call it WILD SPECULATION where we will make an observation based on an internet rumour or information of our own that we just wildly speculate on with no basis in reality.
Today that rumour is going to revolve around a tidbit that Megan Fox might replace Angelina Jolie the Tomb Raider franchise.

The new Entertainment website HitFix says there’s a chance that Megan Fox will reprise the Lara Croft character for Paramount in a new installment of the Tomb Raider franchise. The source is very sketchy (some Euro- Spanish article)
Its not bad enough that because of one or two images online where Megan is wearing makeup very similar to the very popular and trendy style that Angelina was sporting, people want to ignorantly label here as a Jolie-Wannabe clone. Personally I would think the full lips might be a comparable feature but otherwise I see no comparisons.
However I would not be eager to see a Tomb Raider movie with Megan Fox. Don’t get me wrong, I think that Megan Fox is plenty hot enough and can ooze the sex appeal of the character (which is never illustrated in game – just a fanboy assumption combined with Jolie’s performance) but she doesn’t have the physique to be a convincing action girl.
Even Jolie’s recent waif status would disqualify her for that matter.
As illustrated above, Jolie still had some meat to her sexy frame while Fox (still hot) is better as a lingerie model than a convincing sassy adventurer.
Also, Jolie has some maturity to her that gives some credibility to the whole “world traveling treasure hunter” that I just can’t be convinced of in a 22 year old.
I think this is just a fluff rumour to further advance the desperate attempt to parallel Fox to Jolie. But if it did turn out to be true, would you want to see Fox as Lara Croft??
Jolie had the tough beauty and athletic physique to pull off Lara Croft exactly as people imagined her from the games. Plus, she can actually act.
Fox is one of the most stunning young starlets right now, but I agree that she’s simply not convincing in that athletic way nor maturity-wise to portray some worldly traveler. Her voice is way too squeeky for that. Jolie had that husky sass about her. Plus, Fox can’t act. Nice to look at though.
Jolie can pull off the tough girl look, but i dont think fox can pull that off, she seems more like a damsel in distress and im aware she did that small action scene while driving bumblebee on the truck but thats it.
Well I don’t think we’ll see anyone top Angelina’s portrayal for quite a while if there is a reboot.
But I’d watch it with Megan in it. Just don’t think it’d be as good, Angelina had the look down to a T.

Plus, Fox can’t really act, she’s only in the business cuz she slept with someone important.
If they are going to make another Tomb Raider and Jolie is not involved then they need to go to the original Lara Croft model Rhona Mitri, who is a rising star (Doomsday and Underworld 3)and got sex appeal to fill a football field. Plus she’s British so there’s no need to fake that.
So i remember Angie sayin that she would be up to another tomb raider movie again too!

i know tomb raider is not a comedy its an action movie but angie brings some serious and badass in the movie that megan fox wouldnt!
she would only bring her puppy eyes and fine ass to the screen!

Lara Croft is british, and Megan Fox doesn’t seem like the person who can do a british accent properly. And Lara Croft should look classy hot, Fox looks more like she is slutty hot
I don’t think we’ll ever see another Tomb Raider unless it’s a reboot. And when has a studio given a game movie a reboot?
I completely agree that Jolie is still in her Lara-Craft-esque prime, but nobody wants to do that for a whole career. I’m glad she’s devoting time to more serious roles (apart from Wanted). I wonder if we’ll ever see a Mr. & Mrs. Smith sequel with a more romatic side. But Megan Fox as Lara? Well, sex appeal is through the roof, but she just doesn’t have a true Lara Craft in her, I think. But I could be wrong. So far I’ve seen her in one movie with a small part and she’s shown less acting potential than the gopher from Caddyshack. Wouldn’t want to see her as Lara, but who knows.
I agree with John, I think they are following that mode now. Both their last films were both drama’s and I loved them both, Changeling and Benjamin Button
serious acting? angelina was just like she was in tomb raider in wanted and brad wasnt exactly serious in burn after reading (dont get me wrong i loved his character)
I don’t think an actress ever looked better on film than Angelina Jolie in the first Tomb Raider.Fox isn’t good enought an actress to carry a franchise.

I think Angelina and Brad are both into the whole “We’re serious actors” mode right now and wanting some more Oscars. I don’t think we’ll ever see Jolie in the spandex again.
Not so sure about the “serious actors” thing John. Jolie did Wanted, Kung-Fu Panda and Beowulf in the last couple years And Brad Pitt did Ocean’s 13, Burn After Reading and is in Inglourious Basterds.

well 1st of all…(i know this isnt true but) why get someone else if angelina is still young? she still loks just like she did on the 1st tomb raider…its not like angelina is 60 years old and megan fox is 23…THEN this would get my attention…angelina can still make TR movies..shes young

Megan is way too young… unless you want the Young Lara Croft Chronicles.
While I have no interest in seeing Tomb Raider I will say this. There’s nothing wrong with seeing an actress in a part if there “too young”. If anything seeing the next generation of Hollywood stars is something I’m interested in seeing more of. Getting to see Shia Lebouf or Jake Gyllenhaal in movies lets me see where Hollywood is going. There may be the occasional Jessica Alba or Micheal Cera that comes along but people enjoy seeing the face of Hollywood.
Now if we’re talking the porn version staring Megan Fox….
