Batman Vs Superman almost Stared Christian Bale as Supes!

Back after the comic book movie recession (thanks Schumacher) a number of franchises were being looked at for feature films. One approach was to bring back Batman and Superman in a single film where they faced off against each other. On the final shortlist for Superman in that film?
Christian Bale.
In 2003, before Bryan Singer’s “Superman Returns” and Christopher Nolan’s “Batman Begins,” director Wolfgang Petersen was set to direct “Batman vs. Superman,” a big-budget outing that set two of DC Comics’ biggest superheroes against each other. Now for the first time, MTV News can reveal that one of those on the shortlist for Krypton’s favorite son was none other than Christian Bale.
The other name on the list was Josh Harnett also bidding for Big Blue. Imagine how different a look or feel the movie might have had with these two working together.
I think a Batman vs Superman story would be great as long as it was The Dark Knight Returns. It would have to be a story told after DC/WB finishes with their master plan they DIDN’T tell us all about 2 months ago.
However, now with Nolan setting the tone for Batman (which he will likely finish after 3) and now the godfather of the Superman franchise, I would love to see him take the two characters just as he set them up, and face them against each other.
Obviously that would put some finality on the characters as the Dark Knight Returns features a future storyline in which Superman decides the status is not quo and he just needs to rule it. Batman is once again considered a criminal and Superman is called to confront him, but Batman beats his old ally.

That Superman VS Baman movie would have been apocalyptic
We really did dodge a bullet there
Thank God for Christopher Nolan
Batman would win this battle for sure. All he has to do is find some kryptonite and make an armor outta of it and weapons, supes wouldn’t stand a chance. Bats isn’t stupid to face him mano to mano.
Yay… you read The Dark Knight Returns.
i dont think superman can exist in nolan’s batman universe
He can. But Nolan wont.
Nolan steers clear of the superscience and supernatural stuff to keep Batman more real. But there is no reason he CANT do it. Nolan will find a way.
Isn’t the logo above from the Batman AND Superman comics that were released around 2002-2003? they were friends in that series not enemies.
that could be cool, as enemies Supes would probally kill him off in about 2 seconds.
just sayin’
nah Batman can shove a kryptonite up his ass in less than 2 seconds :]
i always liked this showdown Batman(my fave) vs superman.
Batman has, an can, stand as an equal to superman.Batman is always prepared an is usually in possession of superman’s weakness (Kryptonite). Also being able to dodge superman’s basic attacks of brawler style punching with focused martial arts quite easily.
This movie can be awesome if made (^_^)
Bats over supes any day
Yes to Batman fending for himself because of Kryptonite, no to him fending himself using martial arts and “dodging.” Superman moves faster than the speed of sound (perhaps much faster), there’s no way on earth a human could dodge that. But Batman wouldn’t need to with Kryptonite… though Superman wouldn’t need to be very close with his thermal eyes…
A Batman vs. Superman movie would *only* be good if it were camp and not to be taken seriously. A Nolan version of it would *thankfully* never happen, because Nolan isn’t stupid enough to do something like that or make something so bad (because it was be bad — it would have to be if it were to be anything close to enjoyable). Now that the Batman franchise has taken off, I hope they never do it, because Batman works as a serious, dark movie and I wouldn’t want to see it ruined.
in all seriousness Batman=AWESOME, Superman=big blue joke. :|
so don’t taint the CN’s batman thats already establish by bringing in superwhat? The reason why superwhat didn’t work is because the concept of superwhat is a joke to begin with. It may have worked back then, but its the age of anti-heroes now days, theres no fun in boy-scout super heroes. supes is just a dead pop-culture of the yester-years. While the world changed, supes did not (why would he? hes god-like mo fo to begin with, theres no flaw in his creation) oooh yeah Kryptonite! that very thing from his home planet would kill him like dirt to humans. that make sense.
