Kevin James Joins Here Comes the Boom

Little is known about the plot Columbia Pictures action comedy Here Comes the Boom, but what we do know is that they have signed Kevin James for the lead.

ComingSoon says:

Columbia Pictures has signed Kevin James to star in action-comedy Here Comes the Boom, which James will produce with Adam Sandler and Todd Garner.

I really like Kevin James, but I tend to like him in ensembles or as the sidekick where he can really play off of other personalities.

In movies where he is the lead and others have to play off him? Not so much.

I will wait to see how this looks though. Maybe James will get that lead that works for him yet.

    1. IMDB doesn’t decide ‘top billing’. It lists them at first in order that they were attached to the project.

Like I have said a dozen times. Charice is NOT starring in this film, she is a supporting tole that will solidify for the characters that this music program needs saving.

This is a Kevin James film. I would be surprised if Charice has more than 10 minutes of screen time.

  1. Oh my…. why are you guys talking something that is uncertain…moviegoers now are smart.. they would watch the movie because something good is in there…cast would just be an added factors, if charice made it then lets be happy anyway they wouldnt give us something out of the profit….

  2. Most of the criticism of her acting on Glee comes from her detractors – mostly Lea Michele fans who are fearful of their idol being upstaged by Charice. They can’t attack her singing so they denigrate her acting which while isn’t Meryl Streep is adequate for her role as a foreign exchange student. I seem to recall that some of the Glee regulars weren’t so hot in their acting when Glee first aired – I expect if Charice is offered more acting roles she will continue to improve and someday not draw criticism on her acting skills. Also as her command of the English language improves, this will be reflected in her acting.

    1. That is just wild speculation. You have NO basis to assume that people are criticizing her acting because her character is clashing with another character. That’s just random guessing and dodging the reality that this girl is not a great actor.

Even in her Glee season finale appearance, she was an amazing singer, but not a good actor (and significantly chubbier than she was in her first appearance)

The fact remains that this very talented singer is getting acting roles just because of her singing popularity – stunt casting. That she is cast as a singer in these roles is the only merit she has. Minimal screen time acting, lots of screen time singing.

I don’t judge her ability based on the actions of the character or who she opposes. She’s not a good actor. But she doesn’t have to be to play a singer. She does that just fine.

    2. If she keeps getting roles than it’s called “practice” and I’m hoping after practicing that she would improve.

It’s not fair to actors who devote their lives to their craft to insist that someone who doesn’t devote their life to acting would be upstaging a professional.

That’s like me insisting that I can play basketball better than LeBron James due to my skills in ping pongs. I may have a devoted following at the ping pong table, but that would have no precedence on my ability on a basketball court and would be insulting to all pro athletes of the sport.

  3. Me and some of my friends are going to be casted as people in the audience in the fight scene tomorrow (Monday). I will let you know what’s happening after tomorrow.

  4. Rodney, I heard they’re firing James and putting Charice? in the lead role. She’s going to single handedly run the music department, enroll as a student and fight in the MMA to save her music department. I heard she’s also playing the part of the school janitor and a sewer rat name Steve.

C’mon, Charice is the biggest thing since New Coke!

  5. To Rodney:

You must also know that everyone start on nothing, acting is an skills that can develop through rigid training not all good stars are started as good actress/actors they all start from nothing, and they act polishes through out day.

No one can judge their own fate, it’s depend on the people on how they will response on this movie. Well, giving opinion or somehow “point of view” is okay, nonetheless it is constructive criticism and not stepping on others head.

  6. I wouldn’ be surprised if the movie was made because of Charice.

I wouldn’t be suprised if they made the movie because of Charice.
The theme would probably be based upon her singing prowess (here
    comes the boom).

    1. You do realize that this movie is about Kevin James joining the MMA to save a school’s music program.

Charice is likely a very minor role of a girl clearly benefiting from that music program and will probably have very little screen time that isn’t singing.

Charice was added to this film AFTER it was written and set into pre-production. This was not made “for” her, and she is not headlining the movie.

      1. You must also know that everyone start on nothing, acting is an skills that can develop through rigid training not all good stars are started as good actress/actors they all start from nothing, and they act polishes through out day.

      2. Why argue about charice this movie is not about charice!! its about a guy saving his music department joing the mma to do so correct?? yea she might have a small role good for her. There are several good actors/actresses in the cast as well!! As for all of the charice fans out there… just put your money where your mouth is and watch the movie and support her sometimes OVERLY DEFENDING her wont do her jutice. I myself is a fan but come on now… support her by buying her cds and concerts and rave about her time to time but over do it… come on now its tooo much!! Every one is entitled to there own opinion like Rondey for example let him be he is right about the movie not being all about charice he will probably end up watching the movie and realize that Charice can act LOL.. who knows right… let her do her wonders to other people and dont force them to like her cause you do.

  7. Uh.. Rodney, at least most Asians know Charice. We do watch movies, too, you know. There are about 3.8 billion people in Asia. An itty bitty percent share of this market is not peanuts.

I hope this movie’s gonna be really funny or I’d feel bad for Charice and everyone else who’ll be watching this coz of her.

Kevin who? Sorry, but his face does look familiar. Wasn’t he in Will Smith’s movie?

    1. Racial profiling much? You assume that because she is Filipino that most Asians know who she is? That’s like assuming most Caucasians know who Carrot Top is because he is also white. I guarantee you most people don’t know anything more about him than his name and trademark hairstyle – if that.

And I don’t really care how many Asians there are on the planet. Its not like they are genetically engineered to only watch movies with Asians in it, nor is it a guarantee that because they know who Charice is, that they would instantly be drawn to see the movie.

I know who Chris Tucker is, and I just LOVE one movie he was in. Doesn’t mean I am going to love everything he is in just because he is in it.

People will not be watching this because of her. The movie is about Kevin James becoming a MMA fighter to raise money for a school’s music program. Charise is likely to play one of many students at that school. VERY small part for a very small star.

So she will sing. Likely not a big role, but again if she even has any speaking parts it will be to lead up to showcasing her singing – because she can.

The movie isn’t about her, and people wont flock to it FOR her.

Kevin James headlining a film hasn’t helped at all for him. He is great as a supporting actor (Hitch), but he cannot carry a movie.

That will work against anything that this stunt casting

      1. Oprah Winfrey called her the most talented girl in the world (and i believe everything Oprah says, lol). joking. Reading her wiki show’s a who’s who’s list of people beginning to gravitate themselves around her because they are seeing something special in the girl. Hell, she already has a star on the filipino walk of fame… I think what these guys are trying to say is that she has POTENTIAL. Nothing more, nothing less.

will she have an effect on the box office? too early to call as most musicians either make or break a film (mostly break) because they can’t act and even if they can act the fact that she’s not a “big” U.S. star isn’t doing her any favors here. I think it could go either way because she could be the filipino equivalent of Justin Bieber someday and for some reason kids didn’t mind spending money on his “movie”.

      2. You make lot’s of sense Rodney.

And lets not be too sensitive (charice fans). This movie will not bomb or make money because of her. That will be too much to expect.

Let us just rejoice that she is getting good breaks and wait until the time she makes it high in the US.

For one, she bombed here in Europe but let’s see if her next albums make it.

  8. Charice making the cast (5th) is huge, especially, for a young girl with
hardly any acting experience. She can’t be that “terrible” to pass the.
audition, presumably by a competent casting crew. With a humble beginning,
she is unbelievable unique (not Rain) talent beating all odds…’nuff said.

    1. Charice, after years of doing shows with David Foster is still a nobody in the US. Biebs and Jackie Evancho outpaced her so quickly despite having real talent than both. She didn’t do well in Glee as an actress. She doesn’t know how to act actually. This movie sounds like a Bmovie and sadly, i don’t think Charice would add anything to it other than being a background character.

  9. Very smart move to cast Charice in the movie. Not only she’s very talented
and versatile, she has a legion of fans all over the world which practically guarantee success.

    1. Charice who?

And casting a person who might be famous somewhere else does NOT guarantee success. Korean mega star Rain was cast in a number of films and now no one will touch him for a feature film role in Hollywood. He didn’t boost boxoffice of Speed Racer or Ninja Assassin.

Google suggests you might mean the Filipino popstar that rose to popularity out of YouTube – still not sure how that is going to “help” this movie. If we are talking about the same person, they made a big deal bringing her to the US after discovering her on Youtube. While I think she might have a career in music – she was a terrible in her brief appearance on Glee (but sang well). Casting popstars instead of actors RARELY helps a film.

They would be better off casting an ACTOR instead.

      1. in some point you are correct in your speculation, though we should not underestimate a talent of a child. remember that every talents are being boost by continuous trainings… we still never know how that young girl soars. better yet, just wait then judge! every people starts in their own simple acts and ended as BIG STARS!

      2. Rodney, I will take a bet on that. If the movie does not make a good profit over 6 months I will treat you to an island vacation in the Tropics.

      3. Retracting my words?

It’s stunt casting. They are casting a non-actor to generate buzz about it, and this article doesn’t even talk about her at all. She was added to the film and no one is talking about it.

There is nothing to retract. She’s not that big a deal. She will be a good singer, that she is good at. She was on TV on Glee and wasn’t good, but she sang awesome.

There is no “deal” here because you are NOT going to buy me an island vacation when the movie disappears (Kevin James is not a big draw as a headliner) and if this becomes some big success, it wont be because a young singer was added to the cast.

      4. Rodney, I do respect your opinion, it’s a free country but I think she will be a good fit for this movie if the plot is about a school’s music department because she does excel in music and she is young. I thought
she did fairly well in Glee and I agree, she sang awesome. Great singers always try acting sometime in their careers, so let’s give her a chance to show what she’s got, if she’s successful, kudos to her, if not then she still has her very promising singing career. All I ask to everyone is give her a chance, it’s a free country but I also understand that you just can’t please everyone in this planet, not matter how good a person is, there are negative critics, it’s part of show business. Peace!!

      5. Whatever Rodney. It’s too early to judge. Let’s just see what she’s capable of. I believe in this girl’s talent, she learns fast. I’m thankful to the Americans for giving her the opportunity to show her talent to the world though she may not be a “big” star now, but we just can’t tell what fate can do for this girl.

  10. I actually was involved in the filming of this on friday as they were shooting in boston
The plot is kevin james is a school music teacher and the school is going to lose the music department so james goes to cage fighting for prize money to keep the music program

  11. Well, good thing nobody is going off this review of Kevin James or the other comment. Fact of the matter is, dude sells! Paul Blart cost a grand total of $26 million to make…Made over $183 million internationally! I’m not the best at math in the world, but that’s a heck of a profit! Last time I checked, that’s what movies are for in terms of the business side of the game…to see a PROFIT! He delivers! Dislike him all you want…dude’s got it right now!

      1. Hey! I actually got to extra on this movie.
Treated like furniture, but was great seeing Kevin and Henry.
        Sad I couldn’t see Selma.

  12. Only thing I dug this guy in was “Chuck and Larry” w/ the Sandman.

he’s O.K. as a second actor but his flicks where he’s the lead fall flat for me.

(I guess someone’s gotta fill the spot Farley left open)
