Edgar Wright started the spread of a very cool animated video called Pixels that featured the world being under seige by 8-bit video game characters. It was very creative and very well done.
Now Adam Sandler got his teeth into it and is developing a feature film based on it.
Now comes word that the French filmmaker behind “Pixels,” Patrick Jean, has teamed up with Adam Sandler’s production company to develop a big-screen version of the short.
The project is still in the early stages and has yet to sign a writer, but the plan is to make an action comedy similar to “Ghostbusters.” The idea is that character will come out of a video game to wreak havoc in the real world.
I am very encouraged to see what he does with this.
Check out the original short, which is totally worth it on its own:
I would agree that the short is amazing, but I don’t see there being any potential for dialogue. With Sandler picking it up too I don’t no if I would want to bore myself with his lack of comedy. Great short though.
If they can come up with a “Battleship” and “Monopoly” movie this shouldn’t as far fetched as it seems
They already did this concept in Futurama.
I don’t see how you can make this into a 1.5 hour long movie… but hollywood never ceases to amazing me.
I guess they could make it into a comedy where the 8 bit characters live and work together with humans or something.
A nice enough idea but at first glance I’m not so sure it will work as a feature film. Turning it into a comedy makes sense and I’m certain the effects will look sweet but just not sold on the storyline.
Ghostbusters is one thing but that’s one hell of a formula you have to get right in order to pull this one off.
I actually don’t see much promise in this. It might work, sure, but I don’t really see this working in a larger scale.
