Weekend Boxoffice Report May 28th-30th

In a weekend that I suspected would be dominated by women dreaming of a more glamourous life, we still ended up with an ugly ogre on top. Remember the Squash.

Shrek leads the weekend with a healthy lead over Sex and the City 2 taking the top spot as the Bruckheimer Persian Epic picks up the scraps.
Boxoffice Mojo gives us the stats:

Shrek Forever After – $43,405,000 – 2wks
Sex and the City 2 – $31,145,000 – Opening
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time – $30,100,000 – Opening
Iron Man 2 – $16,336,000 – 4wks
Robin Hood – $10,305,000 – 3wks

I really didn’t expect Sex and the City 2 to only get the #2 spot. I figured for sure it was going to dominate, but Shrek pulled out ahead of the race.

Iron Man 2 and Robin Hood area also hanging on to their Top 5 spots. And way down there in 10th place How to Train Your Dragon adds another million to its long running tally.

  1. I have to say I’m pleasantly surprised with how well Robin Hood’s done. I think people were down on it for its first-week performance, but it’s held on well enough to be profitable and do well compared to other movies in its genre. I wouldn’t mind a few more stories of the like being made into good, capable movies, though it’s tough to get writers, directors and actors to all come together and take those kinds of movies seriously, and make the ‘action’ in them good, without losing any semblance of a story.

    1. Robin hood, another movie that cost 200 mil. At least they are doing better over seas, but when talking about box office numbers, the overseas numbers are rearly discused.

  2. Prince of Persia wasn’t a great movie but for video game movies, it was a step in the right direction. I am a little sad that it only made 30 million considering its 200 million budget.
