The closing moments of Machete promises a sequel, but like the fake trailer that spawned this film, that too could have just been part of the experience. But Danny Trejo has revealed that the sequel is written and he is eager to get to making the movie.
“I asked (Robert Rodriguez) when he was going to write it and he says it’s written, so we can get started pretty quick. We went all over the world with that movie and people kept having me sign these Machete action figures, it was a lot of fun. I don’t even think Robert Rodriguez even expected that reception and now everyone is waiting for Machete Kills so hurry up Robert Rodriguez!”
Machete was a pile of throwback nonsensical violence and gritty rough effects and it was a lot of fun.
The film was written as the first part of a Trilogy, and if it didn’t do well, they could have just ignored the tagline, but it seems like they at least have a plan.
