2010’s $10Billion Boxoffice

This time of year we often get our fair share of “Best of” lists (mine is coming… relax) but to see which films raked in the cash this year is a lot of fun too.

And just to add another layer of fun The Film Stage has shared the biggest grossing films of 2010 and offers both the Domestic and Worldwide lists:

Domestic Top 10

10. The Karate Kid – $176.6 million
9. How to Train Your Dragon – $217.5 million
8. Shrek Forever After – $238.4 million
7. Despicable Me – $250.8 million
6. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 – $274.3 million
5. Inception – $292.5 million
4. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse – $300.5 million
3. Iron Man 2 – $312.1 million
2. Alice in Wonderland – $334.1 million
1. Toy Story 3 – $415 million

Worldwide Top 10

10. Clash of the Titans — $493.2 million
9. How to Train Your Dragon — $494.9 million
8. Despicable Me — $539.9 million
7. Iron Man 2 — $582.2 million
6. Twilight Saga: Eclipse — $693.5 million
5. Shrek Forever After — $739.8 million
4. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 — $824.1 million
3. Inception — $825.4 million
2. Alice in Wonderland — $1 billion
1. Toy Story 3 — $1.1 billion

It is amazing to see how well these films did considering Avatar stayed in theaters for 5 months after its release but isn’t considered a 2010 film (it was released in December) so its not counted among the $10.55billion dollar boxoffice

There is also an awesome infochart that has rollovers showing Boxoffice ranking and how long a film stayed in the theaters at Xach.com that is fun to look at.

  1. It’s amazing how the box office reached 10 billion. Too bad it will lag behind 2009. Plus I’m still baffled by the success of Alice in Wonderland. I knew it would do well, but 1 billion worldwide? I still can’t believe it.

  2. Oh Damn!! Iron Man is not popular with the rest of the world. The majority of its total gross was made domestically. IM beat Inception, Potter, Shrek and Twilight domestically. But the world wide appeal of those movies bested Iron Man in total world grossings. WTF!?! I fear for Captain America: The First Avenger and Marvel Studios should too. Though I think patriotism will plant more American butts in theater seats this summer when The First Avenger arrives, and save it from getting slaughtered in the box office.
