Abrams not signed to Star Trek 2

I was quite surprised after the success of the semi-rebooted Star Trek that they didnt dive head first into fast tracking a sequel. It was only a matter of time before JJ Abrams and the newly introduced crew of the Starship Enterprise would be on yet another adventure. A new script is anticipated in the next coming months and the studio wants to get to work.

But JJ Abrams hasn’t signed on to the sequel yet.

Digital Spy says:

Abrams, who directed the first Star Trek, is currently busy filming his secret project Super 8. The script for the second Star Trek movie will reportedly be finished by Christmas and the studio is eager to begin production.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Viacom COO Tom Dooley declared that he would like to have Abrams return for the sequel. He also revealed that a decision on Star Trek 2′s director can be expected soon.

I guess much like Nolan’s Batman, when a film has that much success, people just assume that they would want the same director to continue on.

I would like to see JJ Abrams return. No reason not to. And still could happen, but its not a foregone conclusion just yet.

But they can leave the lens flares alone (or at least a lot less of them)

Who could you see taking on Trek 2 if Abrams doesn’t sign on?

If it’s not Abrams, my interest drops quite a bit.

Micheal Bay. Now that his transformers triolgy is coming to an end he may be free for this.

There aren’t enough people like JJ Abrams in this industry. Just don’t give it to Brett Ratner or McG.

well Ratner does what the script says… its not his fault that X3 was such a stupidity… McG in the other hand will blow things up and make people float during the whole movie making it look like a 90s music video

I will kill myself if Bay, McG, or Ratner have anything to do with these movies. I hope Abrams comes back, but if he doesnt he created something so new, unique and innovative with the rebooted world of Star Trek that another director should be able to come on and build on what he created, especially if Abrams stays on at least as a producer.

PLEASE JJ!!!!!! DIRECT THIS MOVIE! Sombody else could ruin this film:(!

JJ should be brought back, if he’s willing (and I’d be much more skeptical of seeing any of his future films if he isn’t, because as a fan I *like* finished stories), but I don’t think he’s the only one who could do a film like this justice.

If they can’t get JJ… I think the last person in a million years CBS would want to give it to would be Ron Moore, but money talks and there’s no doubt that Moore could deliver a compelling, fantastic finale to what JJ started. But that would be a bit like a couple that gets divorced deciding to get remarried again. Joss Whedon could absolutely do a stellar job with it, but he’s probably not available. Other than that… what about the guy who made District 9?

A bit out of the box but it’d be interesting to see what Peter Jackson could do with this material.
