Amanda Seyfried will be Cinderella

Aline Brosh McKenna knows the plight of the emotionally abused servant girl, having written The Devil Wears Prada. So she seemed like a natural fit for Disney’s live action adaptation of its own Cinderella story.

FilmoFilia reports:

We all know the story: “the wicked stepmother and stepsisters simply won’t have it, this uppity Cinderella thinking she’s going to a ball designed to find the handsome prince an appropriate sweetheart, but perseverance, animal buddies, and a well-timed entrance by a fairy godmother make sure things turn out all right.”

I just love Amanda Seyfried, and she was the only reason I watched Momma Mia.

I would watch anything with this beauty in it. Aside from her angelic looks, Seyfried is a great actress, and always brings something unique to her roles.

She is already slated to be in an adpatation of Red Riding Hood, and Cinderella would just be another iconic fairy tale character to add to this girl’s resume.

Disney also plans a live action update on Sleeping Beauty titled Malificent – which tells the story from the evil queen’s experience.

Worst casting ever. And by worst, I mean best. Best casting ever. Felt like being confusing, but I really do like the casting.

Seyfried is soooo pretty that she could pull it off in the looks department. And just to make the critics happy, she actually seems to have talent as well, so I think it’s a good choice.

Will they make this an “R” rated version! :D I kid, of course. (Well, not really). ;)

My only question: Do we really need another Cinderella movie? There’s the Disney version, the Rogers and Hammerstein versions (yes, that’s plural), the Drew Barrymore version, Ever After (truly a guilty pleasure if there ever was one), The Slipper and the Rose, a Cinderella Story, and even one called “Another Cinderella Story.”

Then, of course, there’s all the movies that take the Cinderella plot and turn a girl from rags to riches, which could include everything from Ella Enchanted to Erin Brocavich.

So, again, my question: Do we really need another Cinderella movie? What one will this bring to the table, what fresh direction will it take it in? Are there *any* fresh directions to take this story in? Ever After felt like the last fresh breath of air Cinderella could have; I’m not sure if there’s anything more.

Do we need another Robin Hood? Do we need another buddy cop movie? Do we need another comedy? Do we need another King Arthur? Do we need another Civil War movie? Do we need another WW2 movie? Do we need another comicbook movie? Do we need another romantic comedy?

I can do this all day.

Hahaha! Too true. But after Wicked kicked ass on stage, this adaptation of Cinderella from Maleficent’s POV better be AMAZING. Especially because Maleficent is my favorite Disney character of all time.

but yeah, Amanda Seyfried should do fine. I’m not expecting an earth-shattering performance, but it is just Cinderella.
