Clips of Hank Azaria as Gargamel on The Smurfs

While I still would have liked to see Jeff Goldblum do the role, Hank Azaria is proving to fast be an inspired choice for Gargamel.
An intrepid fan caught them filming some scenes on the streets of New York and Azaria is utterly animated in his role.
He looks so great in this, and it pains me that its modern day New York with him looking so perfectly medieval. Maybe he will be transported through time to find the Central Park Smurfs – that might explain his eccentricity.

Hank Azaria is a fantastic cahracter actor, and may end up being to sole reason for me going to see the Smurfs movie. I can catch a few bit of the character voice, and I’m reminded of Azaria’s character The Blue Raja from Mystery Men.
