Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark gets January 2011 Release

Guillermo del Toro wasted no time after calling it quits on the Hobbit to get his many fingers into metaphorical pots, and it looks like the first thing to come out with his name on it will be a remake of the 1973 cult classic Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark.

Del Toro is writing and producing this film which has an ambitious release date of January 21st, 2011 – which newcomer and former comic book artist Troy Nixey will direct.

FilmoFilia says:

Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark will center on a young girl, sent to live with her father and his new girlfriend, who discovers sinister creatures that live underneath the stairs.

In case you’re not so familiar with the cast, Guy Pearce will star as above mentioned father, together with his new girlfriend, Katie Holmes, while “young girl” will be played by Bailee Madison.

I suspect that while Hobbit was in limbo, and del Toro was doing nothing in his relcoated home in New Zealand, he must have been doing something.

Writing this might have been that something for it all to come together this quickly.
