Jamie Bell is Spider-Man?

The internet is a buzz that Sony has picked their Spider-Man, and its all based on the say so of one site. There is no confirmation just yet, but if its true the leaked info says that Jamie Bell will be the next Spider-Man

/Film says:

The site Bleeding Cool is reporting that multiple sources have told them that actor Jamie Bell has been tapped to star in Sony’s reboot of Spider-Man, directed by Marc Webb. If you’ll recall, he was on the shortlist reported a couple weeks ago. (Along with Andrew Garfield; Alden Ehrenreich; Frank Dillane; and Josh Hutcherson.)

I wasn’t really taken by anyone on that short list, but Jamie Bell was the last guy I would have picked. He plays the rough outsider well, but the nerdy awkward Parker? I just don’t see it.

Furthermore, the reboot was said to have an established teen Spidey still in highschool and exploring more of what the original series glossed over. Perhaps they are ditching that angle and going with a 20 something Spidey. This guy can’t pass for a teenager, and will be almost 2 years older by the time this comes out.

This is all wild speculation based on one site saying they are on to the scoop, so we will have to see, but I hope its wrong.

Of all the choices, I thought he was the BEST. What do you mean he can’t play a teenager? He looks youger than many actual 17 year olds, and certainly younger than many of the stars of the Twilight films.

I couldn’t agree with you more, Rodney. None of the actors on Sony’s short list “wowed” me at all. If they want to have it set in high school, why did they have a 27 and 24 year old on the list?

I look at Bell and I don’t see Peter Parker. I’d rather they look for someone who is in their late teens. Its not like there is only 5 actors out there who could pull off the role. I just know I want an actor who can play nerdy Peter Parker AND wisecracking Spider-Man. Lets hope another contender comes out of nowhere ala Chris Evans.

I still think Logan Lerman would be perfect for the role!

  4. Unforgiven says:

Logan Lerman aint on the list. FUCK SONY if this is who they go with! If Bell gets the role they might as well have let Raimi finish his thing and do Spider-Man 4. Especially now that it appears the whole argument against Spider-Man 4 was that Raimi wanted to make it 3D and Sony didn’t. With 3D being all the rage now I hope this idea get scrapped quickly. Sony just keeps making bad decisions. Oh and Bell doesn’t look 16-17 and he sure as hell couldn’t pull of 14-15… Some reboot this is going to be! Meh!

Nothing personal against Bell (’cause the guy can act, and what I’ve seen of him is actually pretty good)…but
I just don’t see him in this role/costume. I want to think, that its just a matter of waiting and seeing him with the suit on….or watching a little of footage…but I don’t think thats the case right now. I’m not feeling it – but then again, I’m not the one deciding Spiderman’s future….

Remember there have been a lot of casting decisions that fans were not happy with, but then ended up loving it. We’ll see…

hes 24?! this guy is much too old. they should pick someone that could look the part of a high school kid in this movie & sequel. in other words they need someone YOUNG.

Ummm…., wasn’t Tobey the same age or a little older when he first played Spider-Man?

    • Rodney says:

But Tobey could pass for 16 when he played him.

Even when Tobey plays adults he looks like he is 16

    • If the idea is to have an actor for at least two to three films set in a high school setting, then the casting is wrong. Maguire’s Parker was in High School onscreen for one film in only half the film (Parker’s grad ceremony was even before Osborne became the Goblin!). I’m also starting to think they are dropping the teen angle and make the character between 18-25 anyway. They aren’t, but…

      • Tim says:

Yeah, Bell’s age is a real problem here. They need to skew younger. I also have yet to see a Spider-man candidate who looks to be able to pull off wisecracking Spidey.

  7. 420BAND says:

Maybee he’s IN Spiderman and NOT Spiderman/Parker, could be another Harry for all we know.

Just get it over with already and lets get moving..

  8. chris says:

I have no hope for this reboot… none at all… and that guy doesn’t look like he can pull off a high school for sure

  9. Ryan says:

You can’t see Bell as a nerdy type? Really? He’s played it before… Hallam Foe comes to mind.

Bell is a great actor. I think you should give him a shot. Out of the other ‘finalists’ Bell’s clearly the best talent.

As for him not looking the right age… I still think he looks young enough. He’s only 24. That’s not a huge leap from 16-18… there are plenty of 16-18 year olds who look 24 (I did) and plenty of 24 year olds who still look 16-18. 16 is a weird age where guys really run the gamut from looking like full-grown young adults to guys who don’t even look like they’ve had a growth spurt yet, so there’s a lot of leeway for a Hollywood studio to take in casting that age group.

Also, let’s not forget Corey whats-his-name on Glee is playing the lead character of Finn… at the age of 28. Finn’s character on Glee is supposed to be 16. Yea, 28 year old playing 16-year-old character. Hollywood does this stuff all the time. People almost never have a problem with it. Heck, Tobey himself was caste as Spiderman and had to play High-School aged in the first Spiderman. Tobey McGuire was about 27 when Spiderman 1 came out… older than Bell will be by the time the reboot comes out. They could have gone younger, but I don’t think it will hurt the movie that they didn’t/aren’t.
