New Monsters Poster Online

I am really liking the idea of the new film Monsters and now we get to see the first poster for the film, and I think it loks great.
Fused Film says:

Now Magnolia Pictures has released the first poster for the film, which you can see below. The movie’s plot synopsis is as follows:
Six years ago NASA discovered the possibility of alien life within our solar system. A probe was launched to collect samples, but crashed upon re-entry over Central America. Soon after, new life forms began to appear and grow. In an effort to stem the destruction that resulted, half of Mexico was quarantined as an INFECTED ZONE. Today, the American and Mexican military still struggle to contain the massive creatures… Our story begins when a jaded US journalist (McNairy) begrudgingly agrees to find his boss’ daughter, a shaken American tourist (Able) and escort her through the infected zone to the safety of the US border.

There is a bit of a 28days Later vibe crossed with District 9 going on here, and I like it.

That the “infected zone” is in Mexico and the themes to keep these illegal aliens outside the US borders is going to be a hot button for political activists, but I don’t care.

Looks great! I’m very excited to c this movie!

  2. Josh B says:

Based on the synopsis given above, it seems to me that the movie parallels the absolutely insane drug war that is currently underway in Mexico.

they are especially capitalizing on the issue with the tagline “they’re residents.”

Science Fiction has a long proud history of hitting political hot buttons, both conservative and liberal. I think it will be interesting to see how they play it. It doesn’t look like they are going to go with the sappy extremely liberal “hit me over the head” view point of a movie like The Day After Tomorrow. It looks more similar to the gritty, difficult, edgy style of say District 9. Of course it could end up being an action flick with nothing to do with political statements, that would be refreshing.

  4. William says:

Looking at the poster, it looks like a sequel to District 9.

  5. Ty says:

Haha, I’m so horrible with symbolism and shit… despite having taken film courses that are meant to help you pick out that stuff…

..so I didn’t notice the whole “illegal aliens” correlation until now.

    Poster looks fantastic.
