Nicholas Braun joins Hit Somebody

Kevin Smith announced that his hockey film Hit Somebody – based on a classic Canadian hockey anthem by Warren Zevon – will star one of the actors he is currently working with in his Red State – Nicholas Braun.

Who? He is a tv actor better known for his role on Disney’s 10 Things I Hate About You, and a supporting role in Sky High.

Coming Soon says:

Kevin Smith broke the news that he has cast the lead in his planned hockey comedy Hit Somebody and it’s a little known TV actor named Nicholas Braun, who also appears in Smith’s Red State. Smith also mentioned he hopes to start shooting the film sometime between July and September of 2011.

“He’s this really really great actor who I love to death and he is the perfect lead for this script…he’s such a good guy, he’s a sweetheart and he’s f*ckin so dope in [Red State]“

I have only ever seen Braun in Sky High (guilty pleasure of mine) and really don’t know if I can picture him as a brute of a hockey player just yet. Maybe I will have to see him suited up.

Originally Smith wanted Seann William Scott after working with him in Cop Out, but Scott is now signed onto the Jay Baruchel hockey comedy Goon, which implies he will play a similar role to what Smith imagined for his film.

This was announced on Smith’s “Hollywood Babble-On” podcast – a very funny show recorded weekly with Ralph Garman that EVERYONE who comes to this site would enjoy.
