Sylvain White shows Interest in Robotech

The Robotech film we were teased with a while back with Toby Maguire producing seems to have drifted into the air into nothingness, but it looks like a new champion is waving the Macross flag.

We Are Movie Geeks

Sylvain White is interested in directing the film. Best known for directing STOMP THE YARD, Sylvain White is fast becoming a renewed and hot commodity. His next film due out in theaters is THE LOSERS, a film based upon a DC graphic novel that looks, well… totally bad-ass! White is also apparently being rumored as a possible director for Frank Miller’s RONIN.

But I digress… ROBOTECH (the movie) will apparently be based upon the first generation of the Macross Saga. Sylvain White is a fan who grew up watching the series as a boy in France.

So it appears that Sylvain’s interest in the project IS the news, and while The Losers is looking to be a fun action romp, and its earning him the attention he needs to get involved in such projects, nothing is official more than his interest.

Maybe he will push forward and we will get a live action Robotech film series.

Oh man my inner fanboy dreams of the day as to when this film will be officially annouced! I would do anything in my power to be an extra on this film. Just to be a part of this would be such a dream for me or any macross fan. If they ever do make this film I do hope they focus on the Macross Saga.

well its bad enough stealth ripped off of Macross Plus but i digress, if done right this could be badass in the ilk of the cult classic starship troopers. You could go all fan service and make a sci fi blast out of this or you can michael bay it and get casuals to go gaga. All Macross have star crossed lover themes to it which can lend itself to mass appeal, this license could be good.

Seeing just about any news on a Robotech/Macross movie makes my day. Grew up watching this series too in the 80′s, infact it was one of the first animes I ever saw, and I think it’s still one of the best animated dramas ever made.

I don’t know if The Losers will be any good or not, and I never saw Stomp the Yard, nor even wanted to. But if Sylvain White is as big a fan as he says he is, along with the guy who wrote Empire Strikes Back writing it, is he still writing this script? Then I think there is a chance this could turn out to be something magical. But I am just going on the fact he grew up watching the series, not his directing skills, which I’ve yet to see.

I’m actually surprised I’ve seen so few people jumping to direct this one. Maybe they feel there’s too much risk involved, that it’s based on an anime, and/or don’t want to do a high budget film?
