What to Expect when You’re Expecting – I didn’t Expect a Movie

The one real world book that has shown up in more films than any other book except the bible has to be “What to Expect when Your Expecting” – the handbook to pregnancy that has long since been the authority on the experience.
Well it looks like that book will be adapted to a film.
The 25 year-old bestseller was written by Heidi Murkoff and has remained popular ever since its publication in 1984, but now Freaky Friday screenwriter Heather Hach (herself currently nine months pregnant) has turned it into an ensemble piece about seven expectant couples.
I wouldn’t have thought that you could make a movie out of that kind of book, but with the pleasantly surprising Julie and Julia, a movie based on a cookbook, then why not a pregnancy guide – making it the centerpoint of the lives of a number of pregnant couples.

“He’s just not that into you” was also a non-fiction book transformed.
Don’t expect my attendance in the theaters for this film.
For some reason im getting a feeling that this has Amy Adams written all over it.
I always wonder if people have kids because they genuinely want to or because they feel obligated to. The second you get married, the first words out of people’s mouths are “When are you gonna have a baby?” What if you just don’t want to? I have this sneaking suspicion that if people could go five years into the future and see their lives after having kids, some of them would think twice.
Maybe they can put that in the movie.
Yes, some people do genuinely want kids. My sister-in-law has been wanting to have a kid for ages…so maybe in the next year or so I get to be an aunt again.
I also have friends who never wanted kids, but now have one and love being a parent. I am also in that category, but I would never want to go back in time and change having my daughter she is the most awesome kid.
There is also nothing wrong with not having a kid. I have friends who are married and aren’t planning to have children. My opinion is good for them. Kids are not a requirement for happiness or fulfillment but they are pretty cool.
I’ve heard Oprah is doing a special soon on married couples who opt not to have babies. Me? I want them, but totally respect the decision not to have them.
or seeing yourself 5 yrs into the future with kids and realizing your life means something now and not about all the superficialities we tend to create for ourselves…
Kids make you a better person IMHO
They make you a better person by making you look less irritating in comparison.
An odd choice for a movie indeed, but I can see them creating a generic movie that will make a modest box office. I won’t be one contributing to a movie theater ticket, but maybe dvd depending on what they come up with. Many years ago when I was expecting I used this book and it offered a lot of answers to my questions.
Wait a minute… Seven couples? Sounds like there wasn’t much story here so she needed to write in extra couples just to get more pages in the script.
