First Look at London’s Batman Live Stage Musical

The first images for the cast of Batman Live have hit the net – a live stage production musical set to open in London England.

Seemingly inspired by the Spider-Man stage musical, but learning from the injury threatening production, the live show will feature Batman and some of his more popular rogues revolving around the story of introducing Robin.

The costumes look a little TOO much like they are adapting Schumaker’s Batman and Robin, which right there raises some flags. The stage production is supposed to be more campy like the Adam West Batman, which was an inspiriation for Schumacker’s neon obsessed modern Batman.

Note: Schumaker’s Batman single handedly KILLED superhero films for a short while, scaring off studio consideration until Blade broke the ice for films like X-Men, which re-launched the genre 5 years later.

But its a musical. Something doesn’t quite fit there for Batman. Spider-man either. Come to think of it Evil Dead sounds like a dumb idea for a musical stage adaptation too, and the critics love it. So nothing is sacred.

So while Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark struggles against bankruptcy and physical injury, London is moving ahead with Batman Live.

Let’s see which one works better!

  1. Sorry Rodney, you got a few facts mixed up about this.

Its not a musical, its just a live show, and its launching in Manchester, not London, and its a tour, so its not just staying in London. Its coming to Ireland as well (My girlfriend and I got front row tickets long ago).

Have to say, when I watched Batman Forever and Batman and Robin again a short while ago, I actually rather enjoyed them. Theyre kinda fun if you just take them as they are… which is cheese. As for this show, theres some interesting things lined up. Its based round robin first joining up i think, and there will be plenty of acrobatics. Ive also heard that theres a part where a lot of acrobats form one large joker face, though i cant imagine how it’ll work.

Anyways, if it does well over here in Europe (obviously the best continent ever), then it’ll surely go to north america. Thats the plan anyway.

  2. I disagree with Rodney about Schumacker’s take on Batman yea I agree he directed the worst ones hands down but he took his inspiration from Burton all the way. And put Nipples on the outfits why who knows.

But this is not something I would see I hate theater. Wide shot the whole time and everything feels trapped worst times as a child having my parents take me to the theater and Oprah.

  3. I’ve been following stories on the Spidey one and It just seems like a bad apple from day one.

now I hear there re-tooling it and changing the music (Bono and Edge writing a crappy tune?-say it isn’t so!)

I’ve heard news about this and it seems to be going well.

I’d love to take my lil’ one to one of these shows
