New Tarzan Flick Near Your Jungle…

It seems Warner’s is going to have a new franchise regarding Tarzan, with ‘Hustle & Flow’ helmer Craig Brewer ready to go. Screenrant swings this from the vines:

Warner Bros. was ready to revisit one of the longest-running and most popular literature-turned-film franchises in Hollywood – by making a new Tarzan movie. The studio had charged screenwriter Adam Cozad (the upcoming Jack Ryan reboot) and filmmaker Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow) with the task of writing dual Tarzan scripts for future use.

It seems that Brewer managed to make an impression on studio heads with his revamping (or – dare it be said – rebooting) of the ape man series; he’s now reportedly a lock to write and direct the latest Tarzan flick.

There’s some speculation that this Tarzan will be ‘darker’ with Brewer on board. I’m not sure what they mean by that, unless it’s in 3D and you can’t see a dadgum thing in the bright vibrant jungle. One thing is for sure, it won’t be a character study like 1984’s Greystroke – because as interesting as that was, we wanted to see Tarzan fight beasts and nomadic cannibal tribes y’know?

Another given: beefcake and loincloth, Me Tarzan, You Jane.

No…I’m not thrilled.
How about you?

  1. @arnold I agree with you on NO CHIMP SIDE-KICKS Why do they lighten the tone of grim super hereos by giving them a comedic relife? They dont give grim side-kicks to comedic charaters so why do it to serious heroes? As for Chimps,in the Tarzan novels there never was a Cheeta the chimp, Tarzan’s monkey companion was N’kima [Na-kee-ma] a small monkey with a long tail that would sit on Tarzan’s shoulder.——–Kiambu “Rich” [email protected]

  2. here’s hoping this is the movie that erb wanted filmed and please no chimp side kick jane was killed of early in the books tarzan is a lone wolf of the jungle i am reall looking forward 2 this one

    1. It is not true that Jane Porter-Clayton was killed off early in the Tarzan books she stil lives with him today in GREYSTOKE MANOR in the UK [[See there TRUE estate this is not Floors Castle that substituted for Greystoke Manor in the Greystoke film. Jane was thought to be killed in BOOK#& TARZAN THE UNTAMED but Tarzan discovered she was alive in BOOK#* TARZAN THE TERRIBLE She is also Present in the following books 9# TARZAN AND THE GOLDEN LION #10 TARZAN AND THE ANTMEN and BOOK#19 TARZANs QUEST in this latter book Jane assumes a Sheena like role and tries to lead her plane crashed survivors out of the jungle only to be capture by the Kavuru a tribe of half-naked white men who use the blood of women for eternal life. This is the only book in the series where Jane really comes into her own, basicly a solo adventure for her

  3. Most of the films back in the day, offered up pretty clear-cut heroes & heroines. It was just their way of entertaining the audiences, pre-depression, during the depression years, post depression and during those WWII years. Nowadays, the movie makers seem to think that folk want mostly violence, thrills, stupid comedy(?)and overt sex. They are re-making(mostly poorly)and cliche’-ing us to death; turning good comedic story-lines into buffoonery, or unnecessary darkness. I am a baby boomer who has seen waaaay too many good films to appreciate the majority of stuff that we are being offered from today’s film makers. I truly hope the new “Tarzan” film(s)are good.

  4. I’ve never seen a Tarzan movie done right except for “Greystoke”. Hopefully this is an action movie rather than a character study like Greystoke. They need to show the savage side of Tarzan. He is a beast of the jungle. I want to see him hunt and jump on a deer and rip it’s neck out with his bare teeth, then eat the meat raw. I want a Tarzan that had more respect for the apes, lions, beasts of the jungle than he has for men. Maybe even put the fabled Opar in this movie with its creatures would be good. The books have been great and still are popular, so i don’t understand hollywood always diverting from the book. Give us a good Tarzan movie will you.

  5. I am (hesitantly) thrilled, actually, provided they go full-on dark and portray Tarzan’s savage side. Tarzan grew up in a pretty rough neighborhood. He kills with his bare hands and eats his meat raw. I’d love to see him rip through slave traders or a horde of even more savage sub-humans that dwell in some lost city of darkest Africa in a noir-tinged Indiana Jones-like action adventure (without Jane). Could be a new start for the Lord of the Jungle.
