More and more trailers are coming in these days and the latest in line is the trailer for the upcoming G.I. Joe Sequel film “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” with the film releasing in June 2012.

Wow. That trailer was surprisingly good. After the first movie I’m actually pleasantly surprised and thoroughly impressed with this trailer. It seems to indicate a definite tonal shift in approach to the film with what appears to be the death of just about every Joe save for a handful. I was apprehensive about this movie for a long time but this trailer is re-assuring and was actually a lot better than I expected.

The premise seems a little cliche at this point as it’s been done before, and is actually being done in the new Mission Impossible movie, but I think that can be forgiven. Dwayne Johnson and Bruce Willis appear to somewhat steal the spotlight in Channing Tatum’s absence and Palicki looks good in this as the new Lady Jaye.

Bruce Willis’ appearance in the trailer is brief, but memorable as he’s the original G.I. Joe in the upcoming film so I’m looking forward to seeing how this turns out. It isn’t perfect but is already leaving a much better impression than the first film.

  1. I’m grateful they left the accelerator suits behind. That fight with Snake Eyes and the red ninjas on the mountain was amazing! The only downside for me was the “There is one man” line that leads into the Bruce Willis clip. That seemed a little corny to me. And it immediately pulled me out to see Bruce Willis doing a John-McClane-style car spin–it felt like stunt casting to me. Still, I’ll check it out.

  2. Well, I have to admit that, after the debacle that was the first one, this looks decent. In fact, this should have been the first one…

Sadly, it looks like they’re wasting the opportunity here. The trimmed down team should have included the core original Joes, including Stalker, Scarlett, Rock and Roll, Breaker, etc..

    Still, it’s an improvement…
