Abrams Not Committed to Direct Trek 2 Yet

J.J. Abrams revealed he is not committed to directing Star Trek 2 yet. At a party for the Fox/FX portion of the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour, Abrams noted he’s not committing until he’s read the script, which he implied would be ready sometime around March. Star Trek 2 has a scheduled release date of June 29, 2012.

Collider quotes Abrams as saying:

“I guess the idea of not wanting to choose to direct a film, for which I’ve not read a script. It’s a tough decision to make without seeing any pages. That’s not to say that I don’t have all the faith in the world in the spectacular writers. Damon Lindelof, Bob Orci and Alex Kurtzman are awesome. My hope is that they’ll write the script, it will be great and we can make a fun, exciting sequel to Star Trek.”

I’m so torn about the new Star Trek. I miss the old stuff, but I completely understand and appreciate Abrams new vision of the franchise. I actually loved the Abrams film, but there will always be a part of me that liked “my father’s Star Trek,” and yearn a bit for it.

It’s kind of like how I love White Castle Hamburgers, but no matter how much I love them, they aren’t REALLY classic hamburgers. They are something just slightly different, but still yummy, but different.

I just compared Star Trek to sliders. Gross.

Anyway, I can’t imagine this new trek without Abrams, and with the quality screenwriters on this one, I think we’ll see him attached to direct at some point.

Live long and prosper, hopefully he’ll be on board soon. I loved the new Trek, I also love the old tv series but we need to move forward and since there is no new tv series to watch then Trek 2 will be more than welcome when it arrives.

JJ, you know it makes sense, sign up soon laddie.
