Christina Hendricks as Wonder Woman…?

Tals of a possible Wonder Woman film have surfaced again, with a director Nicolas Winding Refn hoping to make it and hopefully with his Drive starlet Christina Hendricks of Mad Men in the lead.
Hollywood.Com gives us a surprise:

Having directed Hendricks in 2011’s Drive (which, apparently, everyone LOVED), Refn has decided that she is the definitive choice for Wonder Woman—a project to which he is boundlessly dedicated. Almost creepily dedicated. Refn has stated he was “born to make this film.” Latent childhood fantasies aside, Refn’s upcoming projects also include a remake of Logan’s Run, to reunite him with another Drive star, Ryan Gosling.

Despite (or maybe in light of) Refn’s odd attachment to this project, the entire thing breeds optimism. Wonder Woman has been conspicuously untouched in the eye of the classic superhero revival storm.

They rule out the recent pilot, which was such a lousy take that the networks showed us mercy and saved David E Kelley’s fine reputation as a TV producer. Also, it’s not like the Wonder Woman film project hasn’t had prospects. Even Avengers helmer Joss Whedon took a shot at it.

I think Wonder Woman is a tough character to adapt- that is, if you wanted to keep it in real world logistics and not play up upon the fantasy and sci-fi elements of the character. I actually think it might be easier now that we seen Asgard in Marvel’s Thor and Oa in Green Lantern; could we get away with Paradise Island and a populace of Amazon women? Darn skippy.

Nicolas Winding Refn as a possible director…? I confess I have not seen Drive, and it may be interesting if he can pull off the Logan’s Run remake (which I’m not holding my breath on either)..but I can’t complain with his wish list for the lead in Wonder Woman. That said, there’s, what, 1,000 actresses who would kill like faster pussycat for this gig. But…um..

Christina Hendricks?
Okay if he dyed her hair and dropped a dress size I suppose…maybe…..

No, folks. Sorry. I’m not on the bandwagon just yet. Give me some time to reflect….

1,000 actresses….

Chime in Int’l frienfds. I know you want to.
I know you want to see a massic lasso and know the truth!

  1. My casting suggestions for Diana Prince/Wonder Woman :

    – Megan Gale
    – Kate Beckinsale
    – Oliva Wilde
    – Angelina Jolie (if she’s interested in the role)
    – Emily Blunt (yeah she’s gorgeous).

But with the way Green Lantern performed at the box office, I’m sure DC/Warner Bros is wary of making another comic book film. Their only sure bets are Superman(Man of Steel) and Batman (The Dark Knight Rises).

  2. Listen she was great in Firefly so that gives her a pass in my book. I am so bias when it comes to her because she has been on both of my favorite all time shows (firefly & mad men). If she dedicated herself and dropped the weight she has the chops in my opinion to play a powerful woman. Plus she has been lobbying for the role which makes me think her dedication is there. At the very least let her do a wardrobe test and leak the photos to my private inbox.

  3. I hv my sight on possible comic heroines that fit Christina Hendricks perfectly…. Power Girl, although i don’t mind seeing her as Wondie, but there are other actresses that maybe suit the role better, a beauty amazon warrior that combine strength, athleticism & grace…
Wondie always pictured (in comic) second only to Superman in term of strength, also she is well endowed & athletic build (but not ridiculously body builder muscular), tall, even sometimes an inch or two taller than batman…. having second though… that quite narrowing down.

  4. Christina as Wonder Woman is a great idea. In the comics Wonder Woman was athletic and very voluptuous. With regard to the television series, Linda Carter was somewhat voluptuous herself–nothing like the skin and bones girl they got for the doomed television series. Folks should give Christina a chance. She may surprise you.

    1. In the comics she is NOT voluptuous. Granted her breasts are disproportionately large, but the rest of her body has always been drawn as quite slender and fit.

Hendrick – while proportionate in the boobs – does not have the body of Wonder Woman or the physical presence to make me think she is a warrior with the swiftness of Hermes.

  5. i still think Emily Blunt would be a awesome Wonder Woman. Although i love Christina Hendricks… She is too voluptuous… Her boobs are wayyyyyyyyy to big… Which in any other case, would be awesome. But Wonder Woman has more or less, naturally sized breastesess. Wonder Woman’s breastesess aren’t thaaaaaaaaaat large.

    1. I would love to see Hendricks play Wonder Woman’s mother Hippolyta as she would certainly have the beauty, presence and grace of an Amazonian queen.

However as Diana herself… I don’t think so. Mostly because she needs to be physical and frankly despite her comic book proportion breasts, that is just not convenient.
