Justice League Movie wont tie-in

Surprisingly fast news is popping up online regarding the Justice League movie that was stated to be back on WB’s film schedule. Today we learn from director Zack Snyder that the referenced film for the JLA won’t tie into his Superman or Chris Nolan’s Batman.

It doesn’t [connect],” Snyder told the site on the red carpet for the London premiere of Sucker Punch, “Like what Chris Nolan is doing and what I’m doing with ‘Superman’, what they’ll do with ‘Justice League’ will be it’s own thing with its own Batman and own Superman. We’ll be over here with our movie and they’ll kinda get to do it twice, which is kind of cool.

This doesn’t surprise me as Christian Bale echoed similar statements the last time a JLA movie was entering production. I’ll have a hard time imagining how they intend to idiot proof the differences of the characters for the masses if this is how they truly proceed but this would allow for Chris Nolan and Zack Snyder to continue with the characters if they choose.

I honestly would really like for them to mimic Marvel’s approach to the Avengers in order to have a contained universe, but I understand the difficulties with the prospect considering their current situation with their properties.

  1. After watching the awesomely amazing job Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson did with Herge's Adventures of TinTin, I strongly hope the Justice League Movie will be animated using the same high quiality Performance Capture as TinTin.

  2. this is just ridiculous…if they are going to do a Justice League movie, do it right. wait until Nolan is done with Batman and then start over. you can use Snyder’s Superman, Green Lantern and the TV Wonder Woman as a starting point and then give movies to the other major players and a brief reboot of Batman. I could see them doing a good Justice League movie that is cohesive without confusing everyone by having two versions of each character out there. They would have to put it off until about 2015 though but it would be worth it.

  3. Maybe it’s all on Earth II or Earth 16 or sometthing…in any case…
This was previously confirmed by the WB head the other day. That why Batman had to be “re-invented” and why the upcoming *TV* Wonder Woman (success or not) will not appear in the JLA film, but a newly cast WW. There will be a new Superman as well. JLA will be a stand alone film. (so they say)

Unless they give Robert Zemekis a call and do some CG bgs and motion capture, I still think this is a rotten idea, as do most.

The “reinvented” Supey and Bats still come about a year or less after the two “unconnected” solo films have been released. It is still a major problem that helped sink the previous project.

THere are only two ways to do this: CG/Motion Capture or a JLA film without Superman, Batman, (Hal Jordan) Green Lantern and Wonder Woman,
    Good luck, WB.

    1. If you take out Superman, Batman, (Hal Jordan) Green Lantern and Wonder Woman, you removed most of the characters familiar to the general public. I also thinking The Justice League without the big three would be a hard sell. You’d still have Martian Manhunter, Flash and Aquaman. The problem with that is most people don’t know anything about MM and only know Aquaman from the old cartoons so they think he’s a joke. They can’t use Oliver (Green Arrow) because people will think they’re coppying the Hawkeye from the Avengers. I think they’ll need at least two of the big guns to sell this movie.

      1. There are plenty of characters that can be used for a JLA film. If the top three (Supes, Bats and WW) are used the idea is to disconnect from any franchises they belong to. Green Lantern isn’t too much of a problem (there’s other folks in the corps) but a general audience would be confused if they were included. If the focus isn’t on Supes, Bats, WW or Lantern, then it falls on a lesser known character. But what happens if a JLA film is a hit? Will WB continue with solo films established outside of the JLA continutity? They are running into the same roadblock that hit them the last time around. Think folks likee Vixen, Black Lightning, Atom, Doctor Light, Triumph and so on.

Thus, I repeat, a MC/CG film would work with Supes and Bats; but a general live action film with the iconic characters will not.

  4. Nolan probably won’t revisit the Batverse after Rises. Bale said he’s not doing Bat’s without Nolan and no one knows if Synder’s Superman will be a hit. If it is I’m sure the actor playing Superman won’t mind if they ask him to play him again in the JLA movie. Batman doesn’t even have to play Bruce at all. He can be in the cowl the whole movie, kinda like they do it in the JLA comic. We really don’t need origins for these guys they are pretty iconic. Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash and Aquaman are well know to the general public. This is were DC trumps Marvel. Marvel had to make a Thor, Iron Man and Cap movie cause the general public aren’t familiar with these characters. So Warners could make a stand alone JLA movie with there core characters and not have to give much back story.

    1. You hit on a key point in the comics only Superman, Wonder Woman, and Jon the Martian Man Hunter know Batman is Bruce Wayne. The movie wouldn’t center around him so you don’t necessarily have to take him out of the cowl. I think Bale’s batman works for the universe he is because he is a smaller guy and is more realistic but to emulate the batman who is in the JLA you could go with a different guy. Batman’s that are drawn for the JLA aren’t the same batman that used in the comic continuity for the standalone so it shouldn’t matter here.

  5. Well, I can see how the Batman wont be related if this film happens after Nolans version is done, but not the same Superman? This character is being rebooted every film now!

  6. If they’re gonna do a Justice League film, just use Bale and Cavill. No need to recast them with another set of actors. Combine the tones and storylines from Batman Begins and the upcoming Superman reboot and infuse them with a good story, then it’ll do just fine.

  7. Yeah, it’s too late to go the Marvel route.

and I’m glad they aren’t mixing the current state of Bat’s and Supe’s with JLA. That said, hopefully they try to come close to it and not go all Hokey on us.

I want an Aquaman and Flash Standalone film sometime after though.

Then maybee a Firestorm? (If Blade and Deadpool can get made…)
