Justin Lin talked to Arnie about Terminator

Justin Lin is becoming a more recognizable name as the days pass as he’s managed to resurrect the Fast and Furious franchise and add the Terminator franchise on his “to do” list. One more accomplishment he can add to his resume is speak with Schwarzenegger the Governator about returning to the Terminator franchise.

Souce: Filmonic

I think one of the great things is that when I got started, no one would return my calls, and now I get a lot of phone calls, which is good. I have options. Terminator was one of my favorite films growing up. And I feel I have a take that I would love to see, and I’ve talked with Arnold and we’ve talked and we’ll see. Again, I would love to do it, but it has to be the right circumstances. It has to be the right people. And there’s other projects too. But I’m in a position now that I can choose more than I could a year ago, two years ago. So that is something that is potentially in my future, but when I get home I will sit down and look at my options and choose what I want to do.

Somehow this news managed to trigger the theme song music to start playing in my head. Somehow I would like to see Governator return to this role. Sure he’s not as young as he used to be and probably should avoid this franchise like the plague but I’d still like to see him do it. This makes no sense. I hope he has a good idea for where to take the franchise because even with Arnie’s helpit’s seen better days.

  1. I watched T2 for the first time last night (thx netflix!), and I LOVED it, and as others say above, if a film is made in the future, they should use the futuristic city instead of the desert.

  2. It’s all well and good letting a movie franchise die, but why do they always have to end on bum-notes.

I still want to see the future war we saw in the flashbacks of Terminator 1 & 2. Not the desert landscape of Salvation, but the ruin and remains scattered city battles of 2029. HK’s hovering in the blacked sky, T-800’s with plasma rifles swarming the horizon and clearing each city block while under constant attack from the resistance.

I want to see some epic style battles. Resistance members climing on gigantic T-1 tanks to plant explosives. Those fast-paced chase scenes Hunter-killer vs Salvaged armoured pick-up truck with mounted canon. Down-time in the resistance bunker as plans are made and whats left of humanity try to survive day to day.

Scenes of the machine production lines, platoons of endos preping for the assult and some being fitted with flesh for resistance infiltration. A machine run lab seeming to show the creation of the T-1000 as a large sword shape weapon forms inside a testing chamber.

All these cool things and more I wanted to see in future installments of the franchise. Arnie doesn’t even need to be there, not every T-800 is meant to look the same (they are infiltration devices after all) what would be the point if they did.

I’m talking LOTR style battles in a sci-fi environment. I’m so pissed that all great and interesting movie series have to end with dissapointment. Spider-man, Blade, Aliens, X-men etc. Give me a sequal to T2…hell even T3, but please give us an end to remember!!!!!

    1. Those flashback scenes in part 1&2 was the ONLY thing I wanted to see with those sequels. Part 3 shoulda been it (but we all know what happened with that crapfest) part four was seeminly filmed in Nevada somewhere. too many day scenes! I wanna see what you described above sir.

Thats the film I think we ALL want to see……BUT will never happen.

      sucks

      1. I still live in hope someone will come along and revive the franchise properly. As long as fans remember how great T1 & 2 really were I feel there will always be a chance!!!

      2. Heres to us hopeful souls!

for the record: part 4 wasn’t AS bad as it’s said to be.

Bale IMO was miscast and just basically grunted his way through that film, But the Aussie did a fine job!

Still I’m yerning for a better film.

        Cameron Style!

    2. HERE!!!!! HERE!!!!! IF YOU KNOW A SERIES IS GOING DOWN HILL, WHY WOULD YOU LEAVE IT OPEN FOR MORE SEQUELS? OBVIOUS ANSWER WOULD BE FOR THE CASH, BUT I THINK FANS DESERVE A PROPER ENDING TO THE FRANCHISE, WITH ONLY ONE WORD TO DESCRIBE IT……EPIC

  3. Somewhere in the not to distant future, there’s a person who the machines used as the model for the T2. There’s a story there. I’m not sure about the details, but there’s a story in there,….

  4. I’ll be Back, but can he really return given his clear ageing problem?

I’d love a new trilogy of Terminator films, I feel they’re is still life in this franchise if, and only if its put into the proper hands, follows a clear path and doesn’t try to hard to provide a huge back story.

We know Skynet = Bad, Terminators = Bad (except Arnie from T2 onwards) and its Man versus machine in a battle that will destroy the planet. Keep it that simple and we can have a winner again.

  5. I see a prequel type maybe even ignoring terminator salvation or something but id like to see arnold play a resistance member maybe and follow him and john conner around or something and have him get captured by skynet in the end to eventually be used as a model for their machines.
