Kevin Pennington joins ‘the Avengers’?

Now take this as a rumor but MovieFone is reporting that comicbookmovie.com accidentally released a press release, ahead of time, that announced that Kevin Pennington was not only signed on to appear in the Avengers but also that he would be portraying Wendall Vaughn, otherwise known as Quasar.

Comic Book Movie received a press release that wasn’t supposed to go out yet, announcing what appears to be a publicity event tied to the start of production on ‘The Avengers’ this spring. We’ll get to that in a moment, but first, one other interesting nugget from this press release is the news that Kevin Pennington has joined the cast as SHIELD agent Wendell Vaughn, aka Quasar.

I tried to dig up the original press release from Comic Book Movie but it seems that the page has been removed since this was announced and Google didn’t catch a cache before the deed was done. The effort alone to remove the article kinda helps lend some believability to this rumor for now, but we’ll see how things pan out.

I’m beginning to think that the Avengers may be adding some unneeded glut to an already ballooning cast of characters in this film and I’m wondering how all these people will share a screen. Wendall Vaughn is an interesting choice of a character to include especially if this movie somehow involves the entire Kree race but I haven’t seen anything with Pennington to form an opinion about him filling the role but it seems that he certainly has the looks of Quasar. Are we ready for more Avengers?

  1. This is a little like the Strahovski is Ms. Marvel rumor. Pennington and Strahovski may both be in the movie and they may play Wendell Vaughn and Carol Danvers, but that doesn’t mean they’ll be Quasar and Ms. Marvel. Both characters have a history with SHIELD and it’s all together possible that Vaughn and Danvers are introduced in the movie as agents of SHIELD and nothing more. What this does do is leave the door open for Quasar and Ms. Marvel to be introduced in later movies.

  2. This comes hot on the heels of the Ms. Marvel rumor. I always thought the Avengers would bring in The Hulk, who may be controlled (briefly) by Loki.
    But I’m not ruling out SHIELD agents who in the comics become a superhero themselves. We just won’t see the :heroes” just yet.

    Now, if later news brings up Jack Truman (Deathlok) I’ll be very suspicious…
