LaBouf Says Indiana Jones 5 Is Going To Happen

Overall the 2009 sequel Indiana Jones and The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull was a good ride for Shia LaBouf. So much so is that he’s eager to reprise his role from the series. That might be sooner than the rest of us think.
From the good people over at Cinemablend:

This past weekend MTV spoke with Shia LaBeouf, who played Indy’s son, Mutt, in Crystal Skull who said that Indiana Jones 5 is “not so far off.” The actor said that he recently spoke to star Harrison Ford, who has apparently been hitting the gym and knows that George Lucas is “out there looking for a MacGuffin.”

While I was slightly disappointed by Crystal Skull, I found that most of the criticisms labeled on it were a bit odd. When folks bitched about Indiana escaping a nuke via freezer, I thought, I don’t like it much either but this IS a fella who has gotten out many a tight spot in past films and Lucas and Spielberg simply homage the serials as we all know (but some had forgot). That said, Crystal Skull had a rocky road of development time, and even put Frank Darabont through hell and back. I wouldn’t mind a fifth film- but I have to call it like I see it.

I would not mind a fifth Indy flick. But in my view, with Indy getting back with Marion, tipping the hat to characters written off or actors passed on, everything has come full circle. As for LaBouf’s fingers being crossed, I take it as nothing more than wishful thinking.

What do the int’l friends think? Is it wise to let sleeping dogs lie, or should Indy and the family go for another adventure?

  1. “No time for Shia Dr. Jones!”

    Drop him, move on.

Fridge was silly yes, BUT so was the water raft jumping out of an airplane (Temple) so tit for tat IMO

  2. Watched this film with the family and we enjoyed it, wasnt as bad as everyone made it out to be. I’ll say it wasnt on par with the others, but we still liked it.

  3. Crystal Skull was not an Indiana Jones movie, it was a piece of junk. A really, really bad plot. There are tons of other ancient artifacts that could have been used. I agree with most, Shia needs to be left out of the films. It’s like a Sean Connery moment, he has a father, he showed up for the adventure, that was it. Let’s get on with different characters, bring back Salah!

  4. PS. I’m willing to bet Lucas and Spielberg can look at the criticisms from Crystal Skull and improve upon it. They’ll also benefit from not having to introduce the Shia character, which forced onto Crystal Skull some of the same problems many “origin” type movies suffer from.

  5. The biggest problem with Crystal Skull was not Nuking the Fridge, it was Shia’s character itself. Well, more than just the character… the name. Every time I heard the name, I wanted to jab something in my ear.

On a serious note, though, Crystal Skull was not that bad. People tend to look on the old Indiana Jones movies with a great deal of sentimentality; the fact of the matter is they were all silly, campy and filled with the supernatural (a lot of people were annoyed that the Crystal Skull had to do with the supernatural). These things are what the franchise is about; fun, harmless entertainment — but nothing all that special, at the end of the day. Crystal Skull met the criteria, and IMO was actually better than at least one or two of the other Indy movies.

    1. I don’t think it was the supernatural that upset people, but rather the Aliens (sorry, the “interdimensional beings”). The supernatural is expected from an Indiana Jones movie, not saucer men. I speak for myself when I say I didn’t care for the sci-fi angle, but I know I’m not the only one. I prefer Indy hunting down religious artifacts or things of that nature. Of course, that’s not what Lucas wanted. He wanted to take Indy out of the adventure serials and drop him into a B-movie science fiction flick.

  6. I’d love to see another Indiana Jones films, for me Crystal Skull was a big let down. I think for the next film, they need to have it be before Crystal Skull. That way Indy isn’t married, we wouldn’t have the horrible Mutt character, and we can get on with another (hopefully more exciting) adventure this time!
