Matt Vaughn talks First Class Sequel and More

Early Reviews for X-Men: First Class are absolutely glowing. With all the positive news that the movie is receiving it seems that the crew behind the film are in full “promo mode” doing the rounds and answering questions but the surprise here is that Matt Vaughn ain’t dodging any!! He’s just giving answers! Look what he said about a sequel:

“I’ve got some ideas for the opening next film,” he stated. “I thought it would be fun to open with the Kennedy Assassination, and we reveal that the magic bullet was controlled by Magneto. That would explain the physics of it, and we see that he’s pissed off because Kennedy took all the credit for saving the world and mutants weren’t even mentioned. And we could go from there.”

“We will only have one more new character. I won’t say who he…I won’t say who he or she is! But we will only be bringing one more new character in. Because, I think, as Professor X is in a wheelchair, Magneto needs to have a nemesis he can fight with. Someone that will be his equal. I know who it is. It would be nice if I could say something, but I can’t, mate!”

THE MAGIC BULLET! IT WAS MAGNETO!!! I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN!!!
I haven’t seen First Class yet, (or have I?), but I guess it’s safe to say that Magneto will be a bonafide bad guy by the time the credits role if he’s going to be the nemesis to fight. A mutant to be his equal? I’m still wrapping my head around the fact that this movie doesn’t somehow involve the Shadow King so much so that I can’t even imagine what Mutant could challenge Magneto that would be on Xavier’s team. Well, maybe Legion. Who do you guys think is tough enough to go toe to toe with the “Master of Magnetism”?

  1. I dont get it. “Professor X is in a wheelchair”? he was bald and walking on x-men 3 and wolverine. Why would he e in a wheelchair by the end of this one?

    1. Not to mention that Lensherr and Xavier are obviously not on opposite sides when they seek out the young Jean Grey; so at some point if there was a rift between them they had a mild truce at some point around that time.

As how Xavier could be in a wheelchair in a First Class sequel and yet “walk” in the 80s (the timeline of Wolverine and young Jean Grey in Last Stand) I have three hypothosis.

      1) Erik Lensherr.

If Erik uses metal in parts of his suit (belt or shoes) in order to help him “fly” (also see X2 where he creates a gliding platform) that couldn’t it be possible that he can help his friend walk short distances?
True, we didn’t see Lensherr in the Wolverine film, but the character could have been there in the heliocopter. (Or even Polaris)

      2) Himself.

Being able to control others telepathically (X1) there may have been a short lived attempt to control his own legs in order to walk again. However, concentrating on himself might hamper him from other matters, such as using Cerebro or freezing a hundred people in a musuem.

In any case, I’m sure that issue will be addressed.

      oh, the third?
Days Of Futures Past. Something happens where Xavier’s legs are injured “before” thier “original movie timeline”. While the two events are unrelated comics wise, that’s moot considering that the films have some changes as well.

  2. Toe to toe with Magneto? I think if his kids Wanda and Pietro challenged him it might be a match on a personal level.

But I’d also love to see Sinister – who could be a character that can cross over into a future spinoff in a Wolverine series or The X-Men (4)- anything to pave ground for Apocalypse.

All I know is.. it better not be Alpha.

    1. They have done nothing to the Canon. This is not the comic books, so they don’t have to abide by them page for page.

What is Canon in the films is that Jean Grey will not meet these people until the early 80s, so that’s not going to happen. And I wouldn’t even touch Nate Grey for the movies.

  3. Nathaniel Essex. aka: Sinister

Legion is too Deus ex Machina. They need a character with depth that can stand up to Magneto. Sinister needs to be a part of these X-Films.
