Salt 2 is officially in development

Salt was a welcome surprise for Sony and did decent business in the box office with a $293 million dollar return with a $110 million dollar budget. As such, there have been murmurs of a sequel since the opening weekend and today we learn that Sony is finally officially committing to the project today.

Sony Pictures is officially moving forward with a sequel to “Salt” and has brought back Kurt Wimmer (Law Abiding Citizen, The Recruit) to begin writing the script.

Angelina Jolie is attached to return as Evelyn Salt, the CIA agent who spent the first movie running for her life after being outed as a Russian spy.

Sounds good so far. I really enjoyed the first movie and wondered when they would get around to announcing a sequel. It’s going to be hard to imagine a premise that is equally engaging as the first without the mystery that propelled audiences until the closing credits during the first go around. This one is nicely nestled in the lower echelons of my ‘radar’.

  1. LOVED this movie! My first watch I though yeah it’s pretty cool. But when I watched it several times and caught everything then it realized it was an amazing action thriller. CAN’T WAIT for the sequel! Angelina was superb!!! Didn’t let go the entire time!

  2. As a 30-year fan of spy movies, Salt was an exciting surprise. The story line was solid and full of surprises. Ms. Jolie has always been a solid performer in movies requiring physical agility and martial arts because she insists on training with experts for each movie.

I own the DVD “Salt” and after seeing both endings (the DVD has 2 versions) I almost prayed for a sequel. Yes, we now know she was a KGB plant into the CIA who decided the Communist Manifesto was B.S. But she’s outlawed and on the run (like Robin Hood or Jason Bourne). I expect SALT 2 to have the U.S.Marshal Fugitive Task Force, the FBI Counter-Terror teams, and the CIA’s folks actively trying to bring a rapid demise to what they believe is a very dangerous foreign assassin. How will she bring an end to the other Russian Sleeper agents without killing American cops in self-defense. This could be another great Bourne-type sequel.

  3. Salt 2 is highly anticipated by myself. I found her character rifled with committment and integrity which cost her beloved husband. I would be intrigued if President at end of movie was a mole. Salt completing her mission and hailed as a heroine is warranted. Peabody should be in movie and she should be supported by Counter Intelligence, of course a member of Counter Intelligence.
I found Salt believable and thoroughly enjoyed the heroine was a woman.
