Shane Black will deliver Iron Man 3

First it was rumored, now Deadline is saying that it’s all but final: Shane Black will direct Iron Man 3 for Marvel Studios with release date of May 3, 2013.

When news leaked out that Marvel was meeting with several directors including Shane, fanboys approved. So they should exult now that negotiations are wrapping up with Black’s agency WME and manager David Greenblatt’s GreenLit Creative.

Obviously Marvel’s first pick would be to have Jon Favreau return to finish off a triology of Iron Man films, but since he’s decided to instead make the Magic Kingdom movie for Marvel’s owners we get someone equally exciting to helm the next film.

I like this idea as Shane and Robert Downey have a history together, and that hopefully translates the chemistry on par that Downey had with Favreau in the previous installments. I’m not quite sure what Marvel has planned for the 3rd movie as it’s currently being seen as a spiritual sequel to the upcoming Avengers movie. Lots of speculation floating around right now and I think this first hard fact is a great place to lay a foundation.

  1. Robert Downey Jr. is money as Tony Stark so I dont think it matters who is directing as long as they can furnish a decent villain and script.

Still didnt like Scarlett Johansen as Black Widow, hope she doesnt return.

  2. If this was any of the other Marvel movies, I would be a little hesitant, but I think the most important attribute of the IM3 director is their relationship with Downey Jr. Still, I’m always a little hesitant about comic movies until I actually start seeing previews and get to geek out.

  3. Didn’t like IM2, found it boring so new blood in the director’s chair might just be the right thing for this series. Right now I don’t care I just want to see the new X-Men movie!!!!!!!

    1. I think the biggest obstacle in this guy’s way will be after we see all the awesomeness of the Avengers on screen together, Interest on another stand alone Iron Man film will be a harder sell than the previous 2 installments.
