Tupac movie filming in summer

Like him, or hate him, Tupac Amaru Shakur was a very successful music artist. As a result, (as is the case with most famous musicians that passed at the height of their career), there is a movie based on his life being produced with director Antoine Fuqua, (Tears of the Sun, Brooklyn’s Finest), attached to helm the picture. The movie has been floating in and out of “production hell” for a while and it seems that the movie is finally moving into a much more appreciable setting as Dark Horizons reports that Fuqua is ready to begin filming this summer.
Dark Horizons
Principal photography is scheduled to begin in late Spring/early Summer on the biopic “Tupac” according to press release issued by Morgan Creek Productions today.

The film chronicles the life and legacy of Tupac Shakur, including his rise to superstardom as a hip hop artist and actor, as well as his imprisonment and prolific, controversial time at Death Row Records, where he was steeped in the East coast/West coast rap war.

Tupac’s life was entrenched in controversy with most people highlighting and focusing on the star’s many differences and “beef” with other hip hop artists, including Notorious B.I.G. and Jay-Z. His controversy often led to success as he actually released an album from prison that became the #1 album on Billboard charts in 1994.

Tupac is unquestionably my favorite hip hop artist and was also a budding and acclaimed actor, so I look forward to see how things will progress from here. I have mixed feelings about this movie being produced but mainly because I would hate to see his legacy muddied with a bad film. Originally the movie was going to focus on the last day of Tupac’s life but it will instead touch on his entire career which suggests that there will be some tough decisions to make when it comes to his many hip hop feuds.

Musicians themselves lead very interesting, if not disastrous, lifestyles and hope that this upcoming movie joins the greats. Anyone else looking forward to a movie about 2-Pac?

Hell ya… The good die Young, can’t wait to see this movie!

  2. J. Noah says:

This is going to be the exact same movie that Notorious was for Biggie. Can’t say that I’m exceptionally looking forward to this but as long as the music is good it will do well.

    • Bigsampson says:

No it isn’t NOTORIUS was pretty much produced by puffy and all aspects of that movie were done in a way that it made biggie look like a god. Only like 60% of that movie is real and it pretty much is documented that its fake….if this one goes that route then Fuqua loses all respect.

    • B.I.G. Bad Boy says:

Thats cuz Biggie is a god. Now I LOVE Pac, but NEVER diss Biggie or Puffy.

  3. Cole says:

    Long Live Pac.

    • Rodney says:

      Uh… he’s dead.

      • Real Talk Of Brooklyn says:

@Rodney, yes I’m sure @Cole is aware of this…but if you have listen to some of Pac’s lyrics, he suggested he wont die, and will live for ever through his music and the whole 7 day Theory….some fascinating stuff.
The man recorded at least 20 songs/verses/hooks everyday….I hear they can release 10 albums of new unreleased material and still have close to 15 albums left ….
Hens: Long Live Pac aka Makaveli

        • Anthony says:

A lot of the “unreleased” music has been released over the years, if not all commercially then through mixtapes. I picked most of my copies in Harlem and Brooklyn!

Aside from that, I’m not too interested in new 2Pac music anymore as it’s almost always ruined by unfit production and verses from rappers of today that just don’t sound well when put on a 2Pac song. I hated almost everything about that “Pac’s Life” album.

      • Real Talk Of Brooklyn says:

I never subjected that the quality was on a “all eyes on me” level…the fact is the man recorded everyday. And PAC LIFE was super Trash for 2Pac. But sure by far superior then Soulja boy, young whovere etc….Pac on his throw away joints is still better then these other cats that’s out.
The Point I was trying to make that PAC fans, ride or die for him…I was Rep Brooklyn and sided with Biggie, but the last 10 years I dug into 2pac, and his life was a movie for sure….from shooting up some undercover cops in Atlanta, to being accused of sexual assault in NY etc. Yes I want this done right, and I really feel Antoine Fuqua is teh man for this JOB

i just hope they find somebody who looks like & can actualy pull off the role of Tupac, unlike Notorious, which chose to have Anthony Mackie (a good actor otherwise) portray Tupac. Mackie’s “Tupac” actually hurt the whole feel of the movie, because he was totally unbelievable. so hopefully, they do a better at casting than Notorious did.

i agree, that guy didn’t look like pac or even have the same feel as pac! when i watched it i was thinkin who the hell thought to put this guy in there and disrespect pac? yeah, he a good actor and he wasn’t bad at the actin part just the fact that a pac role needs to be filled by a pac feel!!!

  5. Jungho says:

Any news on the movie he wrote in prison? I think it was called Live 2 Tell and was possibly in development… thought this might be it

  6. Real Talk Of Brooklyn says:

I’m sorry, but you can’t make a Tupac movie and cover only his last days….his whole life from the cradle to the gave needs to come to light. Listen The man’s mother was pregnant w/ Pac, in jail facing serious charges, multiple counts of conspiracy against the US Government, she then decided to represent herself and her some of her Codefendants , and despite the odds stacked against her she prevailed. Now what kind of man you think he would become?

I personally cannot wait for this movie, in my opinion 15 years is way too long to have waited for this. I just hope they portray him correctly, as an intelligent multi-talented revolutionary, whose soul will live forever through his legacy! R.I.P Lesane Parish Crooks aka Tupac Amaru Shakur. ONE LOVE.

Cant Wait For This Film If It’s Actually Going Into Production. I Wounder If They Will Include His Life Other Than The Rapping As In His Involvement In Activist And The Half-Way Houses. Hope Its Truthful Not Like That Notorious Film That Was Fucking Awful It Didn’t Show Him In Private Education Or Any Other Facts True To His Life It Seemed It Was Directed And Produced By Someone Who Didn’t Have A Clue About His Life

  10. misty says:

They better make this movie perrfect and say great quotes from him!!

  11. Blaze says:

The movie shouldn’t be based on his last day alone, it should be like notorious but from pacs point of view! No muddying up his story either, just make it as close to the man as possible!

    R.I.P Tupac

Look I liked Biggie, but I am a Tupac guy! why hater gotta block our sunshine!! Biggie had his movie and no fault to biggie himself but the shit was wack!!!! Why? because his legacy is bigger than his Career!!!! They have college course on Pac, Movies, Books and so many albums! His career is ever unfolding, rewriting his legacy with every new song, poem, unseen footage, civil rights activist and many scripts he wrote! His death alone over shadows biggie!!! imagine if he had a funneral…..scores of people would have been there!!! Elvis,The Beatles, Michael Jackson and Tupac……you have to be a legend to have a legacy biggie fan! remember yall picked this fight!! LOL
