Want to get Excited about Priest Next Week?

One of my all time favourite webcomics out there is Penny Arcade foremost for the poetic and perfect way they can sum up a pop culture statement in three short panels on pages and say SO MUCH.

I haven’t been all that excited about Priest and very on the fence about it. Karl Urban bugs me as the baddie. But Paul Bettany post apocalyptic adaptation of the comic book is finally about to be released and after reading the following exchange, I really wish that the studio went with THIS pitch in all the PR.

If you can’t read the text, essentially the film is described:

It’s a Sci-Fi Western Martial Arts explodorgasma about dystopian future catholics and a rogue priest who must do karate on vampires.

Who’s directing?

I think it was James Who-Gives-a-Fuck-About-That. Nobody, because this movie has a bible full of crucifixes which are also throwing stars.

“Explodorgasma” is now a word in my lexicon. Just sayin. Watch for it.

So yeah. I don’t care who is directing. After that description it could star Megan Fox as a corset wearing sidekick and have horse mounted gatlin guns and I would still be in.

THIS is how geeks get excited about stuff.

Also, I have been curious about the post conversion 3D on this which is said to be AMAZING. Word on the street (which now means ‘net) is that this film’s 8 month delay from its original intended release was to prove it CAN be done, and those who have seen it are not arguing the point much.

Time will tell.

Also, support Penny Arcade and visit often. They deserve it.

  1. Penny Arcade always shows the cool stuff in little but impressive format..
The guy with yellow shirt and black hairs is funny haha… Just look in what shape his hairs are.. haha classic…

  2. I still don’t understand why they chose to ‘adapt’ from the comic(manhwa) if they weren’t going to use anything other than the name of the main character and title.

  3. I don’t care how a movie’s described, I care whether it’s good or not. And while I think Bettany’s a stellar actor… his choice in movies has, of late, been terrible. It’s like he gave up on being in good movies, instead wanting to play the action star. It’s very frustrating, particularly coming from where he started. Once upon a time, I thought he’d one day become an Oscar winner.

  4. I’ll be seeing this :D Either in 3D or not. Don’t matter cause I don’t want to miss this explodorgasma of martial arts vampire arse-kickery.
