Contest: What’s your favorite car chase? Two £25 Amazon Vouchers are Up for Grabs!

— Posted by The "Superior" Anthony

Car chases just aren’t what they used to be. Long gone are those golden days in the 60’s and 70’s when the car chase was a metal-crunching, mega-expensive explosion-off that led to new heights of destruction through the steep streets of San Francisco. The trouble is, as with most things in modern blockbusters, the power of green screen and CGI often prove too much of a temptation for lazy filmmakers. After all, why blow the budget on a fuel tank detonation that catapults a flaming tire into the path of a passing helicopter which mushrooms into a million pieces when you can simply pay a lackey to design it? It is, unfortunately, these elements that are sacrificed when computer software becomes cheaper than building a proper set. With this in mind, it’s hard to picture what film will be like in the future.

Therefore, we feel it’s about time the epic car chases of old were celebrated and glorified in a manner that they deserve. This is where the lovely guys at Economy Car Hire come in because they’ve stepped up and provided. After all, if you’re looking for car hire Spain is renowned for its extreme roads, mountain passes and car-chase potential. So who better to sponsor a competition like this?

Thanks to Economy Car Hire, we’ve got two £25 Amazon vouchers to give away; all you have to do is answer this question:

What’s your favourite car chase of all time and why?

100 words max. Be creative. Answer by commenting below and don’t forget to include your email address so we can contact you if you win! Good luck.

Has to be The French Connection - I've watched it so many times and I genuinely can't see where Gene Hackman leaves off and stunt drivers take over. I love it because it looks almost unplanned (although obviously I know it's not!)

Some chases are so staged that I'm just waiting for the explosions and the jumps over gaps - but this chase looks as though he just jumped in the car and went for it!

Blues Brothers - the original film - amazing how many police cars were wrecked just in that one part of the film!

The car chase from the original Italian Job has to be one of the best - it lasts for most of the film with the crooks training under Charlie (Michael Caine) at the beginning and the chase through the Italian streets of Rome first the crooks chasing the bullion van and then the police chasing the red, white and blue minis later.  But what about the neglected but very funny car chase in Barbara Streisand's 'What's Up Doc' based on 'Bringing Up Baby'?  Surely the running joke with the two men carrying a pane of glass across a road and the final outcome of the chase where the VW floats in the bay are worth remembering?

My favourite car chases come from the TV series the A-Team. BA`s van souped up and turned into an armour plated wagon of fury capable of causing chaos and consternation to all. Yet strangely not one single fatality.

It has to be The Italian Job - the original film.  The choreography of the chase is really wonderful with some lovely touches (like the "hide and seek" in the forecourt of Minis).  The fact that it is Minis that are involved adds to the whole atmosphere of the chase.  Driving up on to the roof of the Mostre was inspired (particularly since the stunt men weren't convinced it was strong enough!).

Got to be "The French Connection". The best shot of the chase is made from a front bumper mount and shows a low-angle point of view shot of the streets racing by. Other shots involved stunt drivers who were supposed to barely miss hitting the speeding car, but due to errors in timing accidental collisions occurred and were left in the final film. I think it's the perfect car chase and everyone else has just been chasing their tail.

The car chase in Transporter is my favourite. It's action packed with flashy cars and of course driven by the rather cool Jason Statham.

The car chase in Tomorrow Never Dies makes me want to be bad to the bone, Bond diving in through the window and unleashing amazing gadgets at speed all with remote control in the passenger seat! Its fast, it's cool and with the charming Pierce Brosnan, toe curling scenes with gadgets galore what more does a girl need? In true 007 Style Bond coolly manages to fly the car to Avis at the end of the scene without a bead of sweat! Makes me proud to be British ;)

I would have to pick the scene in Terminator 2: Judgement day, where T-1000 is running behind the car, then changes his arms into massive metal spikes and latches onto the car boot! Also love the parody of it in the Simpsons where Homer is pursuing Ned Flanders and his family with a pair of golf clubs lol!

The Italian Job is by far the best - such a great ending too Xx

The Pink Panther movie ending, where they are all in costume, getting lost and they all crash into each other. Loved those movies, sitting down as a family at home on movie night.

My favourite car chase remains the extended sequence in the French Connection movie. It was one of the most complicated sets of its time and remains a stunt masterpiece to this day.

The opening chase scene from The Goonies, when the villains are trying to get away from the police after their prison break, has always been special for me because I remember my dad sharing that movie with me, and we didn't have many moments where we really connected when I was growing up. This was one of them :)

My favourite is the one from the (original) Italian Job. My dad sat me in front of it when I was about 11 and I remember the car chase well.

My favourite car chase scene of all time is from the beginning of Quantum of Solace, because every time I watch it, it brings back memories of when I saw it in the theatre with my friends, all wearing James Bond tuxedos, getting weird, suspicious looks from everyone else there.

My favourite car chase scene has to be from The Man with the Golden Gun. When Roger Moore flips the car over the river and there's the cartoonish sound effect, it always cracks me up. georgerbruce@georgerbruce.com

My favorite Old School scene is the chase in the French Connection. I remember seeing it as a kid with my dad, still brings back memories!! For the newer CGI scenes The car chase scene in The Matrix Reloaded was amazing.  I was really impressed by how well it was done and the length of the scene itself.  It was brilliantly cut and had me at the edge of my seat the entire time!

My favourite car chase is the one in 'The Rock' with Sean Connery, when he has managed to escape from the FBI agents at the hotel and is on the run in a car picked up from a local, Nicholas Cage then chases him and all kinds of chaos follows, with the destruction of a cable car being the finale.. excellent, especially as I love San Francisco and recognise all the places from my travels there.

The Blues Brother's has two of the best, the shopping mall chase and the finale chase, both brilliant. Also the chase from The French Connection, the Mini's zooming around Turin in the original Italian Job, the helicopters/biplane chase from the end of Capricorn One, the opening sequence at the beginning of Beverly Hills Cop, chase sequence from Ronin, speeder bike chase from Return of The Jedi, just to name a few of the top of my head.
