Based on the graphic novel and set in one of the most dangerous and corrupt cities in the world, the thriller will star Johnson as a black market mercenary hired by a Brazilian drug lord to rescue his kidnapped daughter.
Eric Gitter, Peter Schwerin, Randall Emmett and George Furla will produce. Joe Russo will adapt the script from the graphic novel they co-wrote with Ande Parks. The Russo’s previously helmed “You, Me & Dupree” and have more recently been at work on the TV sitcoms “Community” and “Happy Endings”.
The news comes as Johnson is also confirmed by Variety to have officially accepted the title role in Brett Ratner’s adaptation of Steve Moore’s graphic novel “Hercules: The Thracian War”.
If you asked me way back in 2000 if The Rock would have been as large of a Hollywood star as he is today, I would have laughed in your face until my face turned red while repeatedly chuckling “The Scorpion King?!”. Ya see, The Rock being a Hollywood commodity was little more than a passing joke. A gag. Heck the Rock even didn’t even take much of a break from Wrestling at the time and incorporated a lot of the Hollywood stuff into his ring persona and presentation. Fast forward a good decade or so, add some tattoos and a little less muscle and you have a find a bonafide action star in the Rock and you see me chewing on words past spoken. Can’t wait to see his Wrestlemania match!
