Joel Edgerton and Jim Sturges testing for Guardians of the Galaxy team leader Peter Quill
— Posted by The Amazing Anthony
With the re-surge of excitement for Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises and the impending releases of Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit, and Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained I somehow managed to let Guardians of the Galaxy slip a bit beneath my radar. It’s a movie that I’m starting to look forward to now that I’ve taken the time to increase my knowledge of the characters and their place in the Marvel Universe. That being said I’ve generated a keen interest in finding out who’s playing who, especially team leader Peter Quill. Who’s Peter Quill? Long story, but the gist is that he’s a mix of Captain America and Han Solo. Who should play Peter Quill? These guys want the job:
Edgerton would be an interesting choice to me as I think he does a fine job in just about any action role he takes, but I have to admit that I would personally love to see James Marsden audition and snag the role. Sure he had his chance as a team leader in the X-Men franchise but I don’t feel that he was ever given the opportunity to really explore and flex his character in those films, with the spotlight mostly shining on Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine character. Marsden is one of those guys that’s been pretty good in his roles but hasn’t had a break out opportunity and I would love to see this film rectify that issue.
Jim Sturgess would be an interesting choice as well and I wouldnt know how he would work without knowing who he would be working with. It’s easier for me to have that confidence with Marsden and Edgerton than with Sturgess as they’ve already proven to be fairly flexible. Sullivan Stapleton is in this spot as well as I don’t know how he would fit in a space based comic book movie, but I’d love to find out. So many choices, but which one is perfect?
