Michael Keaton joins Robocop as villain

Badman…

Don’t worry, I won’t insult your intelligence and try to simplify or label Michael Keaton’s addition to the cast by referring to him as merely the ‘villain’ of Robocop. I won’t do it. Michael Keaton could be the BADASS of Robocop if they somehow manage to let some good ideas get interwoven into this film. There are rumors that the director and studio are working out some details, (kicking and shoving), about the handling of the film but hopefully this casting  is a sign of that ‘good idea’ thing.

“Michael is the final addition to the amazing cast we have assembled for this film, and it is so great to have the last puzzle piece in place,” Padilha said in a statement. “It is thrilling that everything has come together to bring this innovative new vision of RoboCop to life. We’ve got a great script, a great cast, some killer ED-209s, and I can’t wait to get Alex Murphy back on the streets.”

I like it. Recently I’ve had a resurging interest in the guy thanks to some recent favorable performances and the idea of him playing along with this cast walking around with a despicable demeanor has me enamored. Now, let’s all hope the script makes good use of this talent.
