Ridley Scott to direct Cormac McCarthy’s ‘The Counselor’

Ridley Scott has thrown his hat in the ring to direct Cormac McCarthy’s first original screenplay after having two successful adaptations of his works made into film. The “No Country for Old Men” and “The Road” scribe has garnered a lot of attention in recent years and it’s no suprise that an “A-list” director like Scott would have an interest in his works.

Set in the modern day and said to be in the vein of No County For Old Men, the movie follows a Southwest lawyer who gets involved in shenanigans way over his head in the drug trade and has been described as a very ‘masculine’ work, occasionally diverting into McCarthy’s ‘sexual obsession’ in his works. Two major roles for female leads will be required, alongside the male lead.

McCarthy authored the aforementioned No Country For Old Men and The Road which recently became high-profile movies, the former a Best Picture winning movie. He only turned in the spec script a fortnight ago and has already secured one of the biggest directors working today to jump on board with several studios now said to be interested in financing the low-budget thriller.

Ridley Scott is unbelievable. The man has a full plate of movies including a highly anticipated, by me anyway, new Blade Runner film and more. When on earth will he find time to make all the movies that he currently has queued? I’m not even sure what film he will make after he finishes ‘Prometheus’. I’m very interested, but also very perplexed.

On the other hand I’m very interesting to find out what McCarthy has churned out in his first original screenplay. Films adapted from his previous work has been very well received with “No Country for Old Men” even winning best picture.
