You remember that Conan movie from a couple years back with Jason Momoa in the title role? Forget it. Wash it from your memory. Remember how Momoa said he already penned a sequel for the film himself? Forget that too. Instead think further back to when the role belonged to Schwarzenegger and how at the end of the film he sat on his throne as king. What happened next? How did Conan handle getting older? Neither the sequel to that film or the Momoa film bothered to answer these questions but it seems that answers will come as news is circulating that Governator is returning to the role that put him on the map in a brand new Conan film. Seriously.

This Conan will mark the third time Arnie will suit up as the tough as nails barbarian.  The last attempt at a Conan the Barbarian reboot came in 2011 and starred Jason Mamoa, but it was critically panned.  Let’s just say another go around with the films original star is a no brainer.

The Legend of Conan will have zero affiliation with the 2011 Conan and Conan the Destroyer, though it should have links to the first Conan the Barbarian.  Chris Morganmay write the new script as well as serve as a producer.  He’s helped pen most of theFast and Furious screenplays.

One of the producers, Fredrik Malmberg, who owns the rights to Conan said this about the new story,

“The original ended with Arnold on the throne as a seasoned warrior, and this is the take of the film we will make. It’s that Nordic Viking mythic guy who has played the role of king, warrior, soldier and mercenary, and who has bedded more women than anyone, nearing the last cycle of his life. He knows he’ll be going to Valhalla, and wants to go out with a good battle.”

Arnold also released a statement about his triumphant return: “I always loved the Conan character and I’m honored to be asked to step into the role once again. I can’t wait to work with Universal and the great team of Fredrik Malmberg and Chris Morgan to develop the next step of this truly epic story.”

 

This is interesting, and kinda exciting, news for the former governor. It’s interesting to see if he can follow in the footsteps of Stallone by revisiting past film properties/characters to help jump start his career but we’ll have to wait and see whether or not the story justifies this decision. It’s clearly a risk but a calculated risk can have a huge payoff for Governator. I’ll keep you guys posted on further news as soon as its received, that’s all for now…
